This March, Oregon State University is participating in the Governor’s State Employee Food Drive. Last year, Oregon State contributed the equivalent of 467,777 meals to local residents in need through employee contributions.
Contributions are gathered in three main ways: payroll contributions, food collection and fundraising activities such as fun runs, food sales and silent auctions.
“Not only do we get to make a positive impact for our community, we get to have a little friendly competition between units,” said Food Drive Coordinator Teri Trujillo.
Automatic payroll contributions can be made by filling out this online form. Last year, more than $97,000 was donated to Linn-Benton Food Share from OSU payroll contributions, which are taken out of paychecks before taxes.
Food donations can be made at participating departments and units, which will have donation boxes in offices and lobbies. Peanut butter, canned beans, pasta and canned fruit are some of the top needs for local food pantries.
OSU Today will be highlighting ongoing food drive events in two ways. The twice-weekly digest will have a special section highlighting that week’s food drive related activities, and the OSU Today website will feature a special food-drive-only calendar in addition to the main calendar.
For more information, visit the new OSU Food Drive website. If you submit a food drive activity to the OSU calendar, please tag it “food drive” to make sure it appears in OSU Today and on the food drive website.
