International Women’s Day is Saturday, March 8, and Oregon State is marking the occasion with events designed to recognize and celebrate women at the university.

From 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, President Jayathi Murthy and Provost Ed Feser will co-host a reception in the main lounge of the Memorial Union. The event will honor achievements by women at OSU, while also highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure gender equality throughout higher education, the workplace and society. The guest speaker will be OSU alumna and retired Nike executive Sue Galatz.

“Celebrating International Women’s Day gives our community an opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of all OSU women faculty, staff and students, and to continue to strive for greater gender equality everywhere,” Feser said. “On a more personal note, I’m privileged to work with brilliant and visionary women leaders every day at OSU, and I’m deeply grateful for the excellence they bring and the work they do to drive the university forward.

The United Nations theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which was adopted unanimously by 189 countries at the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women and set a global agenda for achieving gender equality.

From noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, in MU 208, the OSU President’s Commission on the Status of Women will hold a networking event, where OSU community members can connect with OSU and Corvallis organizations whose work supports women and gender equity. All are welcome to attend this drop-in event, whether they are seeking services themselves or hoping to get involved in volunteering.

And from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, March 7, ASOSU is celebrating International Women’s Day by handing out flowers and treats in the SEC Plaza. The Women in Policy group will also be in the plaza running a donation drive for the Vina Moses Center, a local nonprofit that provides clothing, household goods, food and other essential items to families in need.
