All Oregon State University employees are invited to attend the Every Student Graduates Success Summit on April 22 in the Memorial Union. A variety of sessions throughout the day are designed to advance the university’s efforts around Goal 2 – Every student graduates – of OSU’s 2024-30 strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared.
“This goal commits us to becoming a university deeply committed to the principle that every student we admit in person or online should achieve their goal to graduate,” said President Jayathi Murthy, who will address the audience at 9 a.m. when the summit opens.
The summit sessions will be in-person only, but the presidential opening remarks will be livestreamed, as will the lunchtime keynote by undergraduate student success thought leader and social justice advocate John Gardner.
Summit sessions will focus on pedagogy and instruction, innovations in advising and student support, experiential education, student well-being and data analytics for student success. They will address in-person and online student success, and feature contributions from across Oregon State’s undergraduate-serving colleges.
Keynote John Gardner is the founder and executive chair of the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. He is a university professor, author and student retention specialist. His organization is dedicated to partnering with colleges, universities, philanthropic organizations, educators and other entities to increase institutional responsibility for improving outcomes associated with teaching, learning, retention, and completion.
Gardner will be speaking at noon in the MU Ballroom during lunch, which will be provided to all attendees.
Summit sessions will take place before and after lunch to allow attendees to come and go as needed throughout the day. Brandi Fuhrman, associate vice provost for student affairs, said the sessions will take a variety of approaches from hackathons to trainings to panel discussions.
“We’re changing up the traditional summit format so that it’s engaging for participants,” she said. “We’re looking at making a tangible impact to student success through our work at OSU.”
Steve Wuhs, associate vice provost for academic affairs, said participants can look forward to a dynamic day focused on all aspects of teaching, advising and student support.
“There are so many aspects that feed into getting every student to graduation,” Wuhs said. “This summit brings together voices from across the university with the united goal of doing what it takes to support students in achieving their educational goals.”
Pre-registration is required to attend the summit. Participants must register here by April 15. Registration is free and lunch is included. The summit takes place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Memorial Union, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and pastries. For more information contact [email protected] or [email protected].
