CORVALLIS - Mariachi music, dance and food will be some of the highlights of Oregon State University's Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday, May 4.

Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. in Centro Cultural Cesar Chavez on 26th Street, across from Gill Coliseum. The event is free and open to the public.

Jim Garcia, former director of OSU's Casa Educacional Education Office, will speak about the origins of the holiday, which commemorates Mexico's historic defeat over the French army during 1862's Battle of Puebla.

Sponsored by the OSU Hispanic Student Union, the event will explore Mexican culture and includes games and dessert. For information, call 541-737-6370.
