CORVALLIS, Ore. – The second power outage in eight days to affect Oregon State University shut power to more than a third of the campus early on Saturday, July 5.

The outage hit at about 1:50 a.m. and power wasn’t restored until just after 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, but few students, faculty and staff were on campus and activities were at a minimum, according to Matt Rodgers of OSU Facilities Services.

Facilities Services notified managers of the affected buildings so they could make sure that all persons, animals and buildings were safeguarded.

“Power outages also can affect some of the research the university conducts,” Rodgers said, “so communication during these outages is critical.”

Rodgers says Pacific Power and Light technicians worked long hours to restore power, but no official cause has yet been confirmed for the July 5 outage, or the outage that took place last week.
