CORVALLIS, Ore. - Chere Pereira, who has served as the chief pre-medical adviser at Oregon State University for 21 years, has received the Founder’s Award from the Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation.

The award honors sustained support and advancement of the osteopathic medical profession, and exceptional community service.

“Chere is an inspiring leader in promoting students’ interest in entering the osteopathic medical field,” said Dr. John Pham, a former OSU student who presented her the award. “She invites local doctors of osteopathic medicine to her pre-medical orientation course to introduce the students to this field of medicine.”

Pereira has encouraged students to participate in service projects. Last year, she organized more than 100 students, in conjunction with AARP and local organizations, to spread information about changes in prescription drug plans and how to enroll and get help.

Pereira is also active in the National Association of Advisors for Health Professions. She is completing eight years of service on its board of directors, and has served as president of the Western Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.
