CORVALLIS, Ore. - John Matthews, climate change adaptation specialist with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and Jay Celorie, global program manager for supply chain energy at Hewlett-Packard, will talk about climate change and corporate response in a College of Business Sustainability Lecture at Oregon State University on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The event will be held in the Austin Auditorium inside the LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.

"We are pleased to host this important conversation about sustainability in today's business environment," said College of Business Dean Ilene Kleinsorge. "Sustainability makes good business sense, and we must prepare our future business leaders to meet resource challenges while ensuring that communities sustain their workforces."

The OSU appearance is part of the HP-WWF Climate Change Roadshow, which is an attempt to bring individuals from across the country into the climate change debate. The talk will provide a brief description of the problems presented by climate change, but will focus primarily on solutions.

Matthews will discuss the work WWF is doing around the world, with a strong focus on its freshwater adaptation projects. Jay Celorie will discuss what HP is doing to respond to climate change, their partnership with WWF, and what being a corporate global citizen means to the company.

Matthews holds a PhD in ecology, evolution, and behavior from the University of Texas. His research has focused on how aquatic insects and migratory species would be impacted by climate change, and he has consulted and collaborated with a variety of researchers, agencies, NGOs, and landowners on conservation and climate change issues. His work with the WWF focuses on developing and implementing strategies for global freshwater ecosystems to adapt and build resilience to the current period of climate shifts. This work is funded by WWF's Global Climate Partnership.

Celorie holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from OSU and is a registered professional engineer. He joined HP in 1998 after working as a senior project manager at CH2M Hill, where he directed multi-million dollar environmental remediation projects. He currently directs programs at HP to increase energy efficiency within the supply chain and works with suppliers to reduce the company's overall carbon footprint. He is a member of the Global Social and Environmental Responsibility Operations team at HP, which drives social and environmental programs and policy into the company's products and supply chain.
