CORVALLIS, Ore. - "eXtension," an Internet-based educational partnership of the 74 institutions of the land-grant university system in the United States, has been awarded the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary's Honor Award.

The award, in the category of Supporting the President's Management Agenda and Civil Rights, is one of the most prestigious presented by the Secretary of Agriculture. It recognizes exceptional leadership, contributions or public service by individuals or groups who support the mission and goals of the USDA.

Dave King, interim associate provost for outreach and engagement at Oregon State University, took a leadership role in establishing eXtension, whose mission is to expand the reach and influence of land-grant universities with multi-state research practices.

"Dave King's strong and innovative educational leadership is felt beyond Oregon's borders," said Scott Reed, vice provost of University Outreach and director of the OSU Extension Service. "He is one of the intellectual leaders of the national eXtension initiative, and OSU is fortunate to have him providing leadership in our outreach and engagement efforts."

Land-grant university extension agents and educators across the country also use eXtension to broaden development and delivery of their knowledge using the latest technological and collaborative tools. They help identify trends, work on significant and complex issues and bring technology to the public.
