CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University students will bring a taste of the islands to Corvallis this Saturday, April 23, when OSU holds its 56th annual Lu'au.

The event has grown into one of the university's most successful cultural celebrations, annually attracting as many as a thousand visitors.

The luau will be held at Gill Coliseum, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Dinner begins at 5 p.m., with a concert/show following. Advance tickets are priced at $25 for the dinner, show and concert, or $30 at the door. Persons wishing to attend the show and concert without dinner may purchase tickets for $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Tickets for children ages 12-and-under are $15; small children sitting on adults' laps are free.

Tickets may be purchased at the Student Involvement desk at Snell Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week, and in the Memorial Union quad from 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

The Hawaiian dinner includes Kalua pork, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, steamed white rice, shoyu chicken (soy sauce), and haupia (coconut flavored gelatin dessert). Following dinner, the Polynesian show will feature a range of Polynesian dances performed by Hui-O-Hawaii and Polynesian Cultural Club members.

The concert will feature Hawaiian reggae by Micah G and Kaipo Kapua from Honolulu.

This year, several OSU faculty and staff members will perform during dinner. Scheduled performers include Jim Koski and Sue Jackson, Student Health Services; Adry Clark, and Jennifer Busick, Career Services; Alicia Ortega, Kourtney Goya and Christina Nakada, Admissions; Ika Fifita, Transportation and Parking Services; Luanne Knapp, Athletics; Heather Boren, University Honors College; and Mealoha McFadden, Alumni Association.

The luau is coordinated by the OSU student group Hui-O-Hawaii and sponsored by Intercultural Student Service: Asian & Pacific Islander American Student Services.
