In a Feb. 7 address at the Oregon Convention Center, Oregon State University President Ed Ray emphasized the importance of improving diversity at the school – and called on state government to provide more funding for higher education.
According to study author Daniel Hartung, "Access to buprenorphine is vital within the Medicare program because Medicare has not historically covered methadone, which is the other [anti-opioid drug] indicated for opioid use disorder." Hartung is an associate professor at OHSU/Oregon State University College of Pharmacy.
“The running hypothesis is that any time the whales are talking about something other than breeding, they’re using calls,” explains Fournet, who completed the work while at Oregon State University.
That future is possible, scientists say. Researchers already have the ability to remove, replace and change genes that could immediately increase productivity and improve the health of plants and animals, according to Steve Strauss, a professor and researcher at Oregon State University. Strauss and a task force of six other scientists have written a scientific paper that suggests gene editing, together with other genetic technologies, can help to feed the world sustainably.
Farmers will be able to plant Oregon State University's new malting barley variety Thunder next fall.
Jesse Colin Young, best known as the singer of the 1960s pop rock anthem, “Get Together,” will appear at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Corvallis. Young’s performance is part of the American Strings series presented by the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University.

Library impact studies: M. Brooke Robertshaw, OSU’s assessment librarian, will present on a meta-analysis of library impact studies that investigated library impact on retention and GPA. Bruce Goldberg, professor at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health and senior associate director of the Oregon Rural Practice Based Research Network at OHSU, will present “Lessons Learned from Oregon's Health Reforms.”
Interview Master Class: Scientists and science communicators from all disciplines are invited to join veteran NPR journalists Jane Greenhalgh and Alice Winkler for a dynamic exploration of how to give compelling interviews about your science. This workshop will use a “master class” format, with live interviewing and clips of NPR and other science and health reporting interspersed throughout the presentation. NEW! OSU Group Discount for NCORE Registration: The 2019 National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE) is coming to the Oregon Convention Center in Portland this May. NCORE is an annual conference on issues of race and ethnicity in American higher education. Here is an overview of the schedule. Pre-conference institutes are on Tuesday, May 28, and regular conference sessions are Wednesday, May 29, through Saturday, June 1.
