Oregon State University’s in-person graduation celebration on Friday, June 11, will impact parking and traffic flows on the Corvallis campus. The event, which takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., will include an informal processional of graduates, departing from the Memorial Union and Valley Library quads and ending at Reser Stadium, where graduates will hear brief remarks from OSU leaders.
Nearly 7,400 graduates will walk the virtual stage Saturday morning during an online ceremony. The speaker will be former OSU President Ed Ray.
But thanks to $37 million in federal funding over the next five years, Oregon State University (OSU) will be able to send more scientists out onto the ocean to find out what is going on now and what will likely happen in the future.
“We’re buying instant habitat for sage-grouse when we cut encroaching trees on a scale that matters and in places where sagebrush plant communities are still intact,” says Andrew Olsen, who led the research at Oregon State University.
“You always keep your eye open for dead tanoak,” a tree species vulnerable to the disease, said Peterson, a research associate at Oregon State University.
Mr. Campbell’s seed farm has just begun offering certified organic seed for 15 radicchio varieties with a range of days to maturity, working in partnership with the Italian seed-breeding company Smarties.Bio and Culinary Breeding Network, founded by Lane Selman, an assistant professor at Oregon State University, to build communities of plant breeders, farmers, chefs and other food stakeholders, with the goal of improving vegetable quality.

Hannah McCalpine found her place at OSU-Cascades pretty quickly. “The small campus size made it easier to make friends and connections,” she said. For her independent study project, Hannah examined the role of colorism in the African American community. Inspired by the impact made on her by a high school history teacher, Hannah starts in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at OSU-Cascades this summer. Faculty Staff Fitness Summer 2021 registration is open. You can view offerings and register at https://health.oregonstate.edu/fsf/schedule/summer. Fitness classes include remote options of Online FSF (pre-recorded with over 25 styles of classes and over 500 classes) and synchronous Zoom interval training and yoga classes. In-person options include outside yoga, swimming and aqua aerobics, and weight training and cardio dance with adequate spacing, ventilation and plenty of instruction.

Call for proposals: Affiliate Faculty Research Incubator Program. Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium has released our 2021 Affiliate Faculty Research Incubator Program call for proposals. AFRIP is designed to recruit faculty to become involved with OSGC and provide resources needed to develop student experiences in STEM disciplines. Projects should support NASA Mission Directorates and align with NASA’s top research priorities and areas of emphasis. Proposals are accepted monthly and due the final day of each month. Grant funding for open educational resources now open: Open Oregon Educational Resources, a statewide organization that promotes the use of OER, seeks grant proposals that implement high-impact, culturally relevant/inclusive, collaborative projects in support of open education and reduced textbook costs in lower-division courses. Grant applications are due July 9. Project timelines may vary, but all projects must be completed by June 1, 2023. Learn more and apply today.
Professional development for open educational resources: Want to make your course materials relevant and accessible for all students? Do you wish your course materials incorporated and supported the experiences of your actual students? Join a statewide Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort. You can earn a $200 stipend upon completion of “Part 1: Explore,” and you’ll have the option to earn an additional $300 stipend in “Part 2: Implement.” Register online by June 14.
Fairbanks Hall: As part of the Fairbanks Hall renovation project, five parking spaces and one service parking space on the east side of the Fairbanks Hall parking lot will be offline for campus and public use June 14-17 to accommodate movers and moving truck activities. Scheduled: Annual Steam Shutdown Campus-Wide. Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus to complete maintenance services at the plant throughout the steam tunnels and in each building. This process affects hot water supply, heating and all equipment that uses steam, campus-wide.
