“What’s really interesting in this study is that interconnection,” said Meg Krawchuk, a fire ecologist at Oregon State University. By burrowing, she said, the wombats provide “value for the broader community. I don’t see that in any of our Fire Ecology 101, and that’s really neat.”
“Prior research has shown that aircraft noise can elevate stress responses and disturb sleep, but there has been mixed evidence of any links with body mass index,” says former SPH postdoctoral associate Matthew Bozigar, now an assistant professor of epidemiology at Oregon State University, who worked with Peters on both studies. “We were surprised to see a fairly robust link between aircraft noise and higher body mass index.”
"Ground covers are low growing plants that form a dense carpet," says Janet Loughrey, a former Oregon State University master gardener who currently contributes to Garden Design. "They are effective for suppressing weeds, retaining moisture and for difficult areas where other plants struggle to thrive."
