How sex at home makes you happy at work (Sydney Morning Herald)

Led by associate professor Keith Leavitt from Oregon State University, his team was driven to embark on this study based on two realisations. The first was that sex outside of work has mostly been excluded from management research – oftentimes derided as taboo – and the second is that most adults do indeed "do the deed" on a regular basis. As such, Dr Leavitt found it worthwhile to investigate whether one act influences the other.

As most growers know, brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) has become a national problem. It’s definitely become established in the Pacific Northwest, said David Lowenstein, a postdoctoral research associate at Oregon State University who discussed integrating biological control into BMSB.
 

Oregon sells bonds to pay the Elliott State Forest's obligation to schools (OPB)

Last month, the Land Board agreed to start working with Oregon State University to convert the land into a research forest. But an additional $121 million is needed to compensate the Common School Fund, and it’s still unclear where that money will come from.

Thesis Defense – Water Resources Graduate Program: Laura Marshall, M.S., Friday, March 22, at 3 p.m. in Ballard Extension Hall 219. The title of her thesis is “Drivers of Deconstruction: An Economic Analysis of Dam Removal in the United States.” She is advised by Bill Jaeger of Applied Economics.

NEW! Prospective student open house: Juniors Visit Day, an open house program for prospective junior students, will be in the Memorial Union on Friday, March 29. There will be approximately 900 guests on campus, which may impact parking and retail food locations. Please welcome the guests while they are on campus.

NEW! National Public Health Week is April 1-7: The College of Public Health and Human Sciences is hosting several free events to highlight topics important to improving health and well-being. Join us.

Prospective student open house: Spring Preview, an open house program for prospective and admitted students, will be in CH2M and the Memorial Union on Monday, March 25. There will be approximately 800 to 1,000 guests on campus, which may impact parking and retail food locations. You are encouraged to welcome the guests while they are on campus.

Beaver Career Connections: The OSU Alumni Association is launching Beaver Career Connections Meetups on April 11 in participating cities (Bend, Corvallis, Portland, Seattle, Salem and Vancouver). OSU Alumni Career Ambassadors will host the meetups in their respective hometowns on April 11.  Alumni Career Ambassadors are OSU trained volunteers invested in the career growth and development of alumni and students. NEW! Introduction to USSI Metrics Dashboard (SSI0100): CORE Training for the new USSI Dashboards will be held via Webex on Thursday, March 28, 10-11 a.m. The Undergraduate Student Success Initiative (USSI) steering committee spearheaded the creation of a dashboard available to all faculty and staff to guide and inform the university wide efforts related to Undergraduate Student Success. SSI0100 provides a high-level overview of the university performance across six metrics. Duo Sign Up Event: The Duo team will have walk-up events for employees to sign up for Duo, get questions answered, and obtain a token if needed. This is a drop-in event; no registration needed. Traffic & Maintenance 

Tree removal: A northern red oak tree will be removed from the west side of the MU quad during spring break. The tree is suffering from structural deficits and, as a result of a recent branch failure, is determined to be a hazard to the users of the MU quad area. Parking lot closures: During the week of spring break, March 25-29, the following gravel parking lots will be closed for grading and leveling. A2 lots: Community Hall East (Lot 3241) and Community Hall South (Lot 3242). B2 Lots: Magruder Hall South (Lot 3363) gravel portion only. B3 Lots: Vet Research Lab South (Lot 3342) and West Greenhouse Complex (Lot 3320). C Lots: Sports Complex West (Lot 3286). Vehicles parked in these lots may be towed. During these closures, you may park in another parking lot within your permitted zone. The lots may reopen early as the work is completed. Planned Power Outage between March 28 and March 30: In an effort to improve the safety and reliability of the power grid serving the Corvallis campus, there will be a planned power outage Thursday, March 28, beginning at 6 a.m. and lasting through Saturday, March 30, at 6 p.m. Most affected buildings will be on backup power and will experience minimal disruption. Only Joyce Collin Furman Hall will be closed and without power during this time. OSU’s Power Grid Updates website has a list of affected buildings and times of planned outages.

Scheduled: Campus Wide Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building.  This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide.  The steam shutdown for 2019 will occur from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 p.m. on June 20.
