The ship is in great condition and could continue until 2028, says Anthony Koppers, an associate vice president at Oregon State University and a leader in the IODP community. There’s still a slim possibility that the U.S. Congress will fund an extension, he says. But NSF has no plan yet to develop a successor ship.
“Not everybody is in a position to do active composting, and I believe in being really open-minded about that,” Linda Brewer, a senior faculty research assistant at Oregon State University’s Department of Horticulture, recently told me in a phone interview.
“For blue whales, like many marine organisms, sound is critically important,” said the study’s lead author, Dr Dawn Barlow of Oregon State University’s Marine Mammal Institute.

Music à la Carte: OSU alumna and professional violinist Rebecca Sabine is a concert violinist, composer, recording artist and certified mindfulness meditation teacher. In 2022 she received the Outstanding Senior Award from the College of Liberal Arts. Make a solar filter and learn how to photograph the sun: In preparation for the annular solar eclipse that will take place on Oct. 14, faculty members Randall Milstein (physics) and Julia Bradshaw (photography) together with Tom Carrico (astrophotographer and member of the Heart of the Valley Astronomy Club) will conduct the workshop. Learn about eclipses, make a solar filter. and receive instruction on how to photograph the annular eclipse. Saturdays from 9-11 a.m., limited to 24 people. Bring a camera, ideally one with manual controls, and a tripod if you have one. All other materials will be provided. No prior skill needed. Core Curriculum for OSU managers and supervisors: The Core Curriculum for Managers and Supervisors is a training program for all OSU managers, supervisors and lead workers. OSU Foundation announces Women’s Giving Circle grant awardees: Thirteen grants were awarded for 2023-24 by the OSU Women’s Giving Circle, ranging from $2,112 to expand English conversation partnership programs for international students to $9,960 to redefine digital literacy and career readiness competency for students at OSU-Cascades.
