The $20 million, to the Oregon State University Foundation, comes from alumni Judy and Mike Gaulke. They've earmarked the money to "lead and support innovative research and development of technology that helps society better understand, protect and utilize the ocean and its environment." Oregon State University is stepping back from plans to turn the Elliott State Forest into the country’s largest research forest. The announcement marks a major roadblock for the 82,000-acre Elliott State Forest. For more than four years, the university has worked with the Oregon Department of State Lands on a proposal that would make the Elliott a “world-renowned” research forest to help better understand how climate change is impacting forests, contributing to sustainable forest products while also allowing public access and timber harvesting.
“Our analysis concluded that if climate change continues as predicted, we could see increased Douglas fir mortality at higher elevations,” said study coauthor, David Shaw, a professor and forest health specialist at Oregon State University.
Oregon State University (OSU) researchers have been awarded $2 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop improved ways of preventing stored potatoes from sprouting, particularly in the organic sector. This research is pivotal given the rapid rise of the organic market in U.S. agriculture, the scientists note.
This week the map got its first update in more than a decade, and the outlook for many gardens looks warmer. The 2023 map is about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the 2012 map across the contiguous U.S., says Chris Daly, director of the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University that jointly developed the map with the USDA.

Government to Government training workshop: This training, lead by Pam and Gordon James of the Skohomish and Colville tribes, is an overview of tribal governments and their relationship with federal, state and local governments. Search Advocate Program focus groups invitation: Members of the OSU community who have interacted with the OSU search advocate program in some way are invited to participate in facilitated Zoom focus groups evaluating the program. There are several sessions available for registration on this website for people who have had different roles in relation to search advocacy at OSU (search chairs, search administrators, hiring managers, search advocates, etc.). Mid-Month Emergency Preparedness Topic: Clothing in Disaster. Essential clothing for a disaster supply is a commonly overlooked area of preparedness. Music Technology and Production (MTP) -- Call for Submissions: Calling all student songwriters and producers: MTP is looking for songwriters to produce. Selected artists will be paired with student producers to record and produce a song, which will be released on an album in 2024. Students are welcomed to submit a link to their demos by Dec. 1 to be considered for a spot on the album.

The OSU Libraries Survey: Oregon State University Libraries has contracted with Madison Avenue Collective, a local design firm, to help them update the Valley Library, Guin Library and OSU-Cascades Library websites. Delays on SW 15th Street: As part of the Kerr South Parking Lot project, there will be intermittent delays on SW 15th Street between SW Washington Avenue and SW Adams Avenue due to construction activities from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Nov. 17. A single lane will be closed at a time, with traffic being allowed to pass through the opposite lane. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. A section of the sidewalk on the west side of 15th Street, just north of the work area, is closed under a previous notification along with the crosswalk at SW Adams Avenue. The east sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians. Other possible impacts include noise near the work site. View map.
EXTENDED! Campus Way Closure, 26th Street to Memorial Place: As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, SW Campus Way will be closed between SW 26th Street and SW Memorial Place from Nov. 6-27 to allow for crane activity.
Traffic diverted to temporary Van Buren bridge starting in mid-November: Commuters to campus may notice a traffic pattern change between downtown Corvallis and the east side of the Willamette River. Starting in mid-November, eastbound traffic will be diverted onto a temporary bridge on NW Van Buren Ave. The temporary bridge includes a separate path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The paths underneath the bridge will remain closed. A temporary signal at NW Van Buren Ave. and NW First Street will control traffic flow and NW First Street will change from two-way to one-way traffic for one block north and south of the Van Buren bridge. Kerr: As part of the Kerr Administration South Parking Lot Improvement project, the Kerr South parking lot closure has been extended until Dec. 4 to finish construction activities, including lighting installation, paving and striping. This includes the closure of the west sidewalk. ADA access is available on the east side of the building.
Pedro Lomonaco: Pedro Lomonaco is the director of the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory, one of the largest and technically most advanced laboratories for coastal research in the world.
