Today in the News Media is a synopsis of some of the most prominent coverage of OSU people and programs. Inclusion of any item constitutes neither an endorsement nor a critique, but rather is intended only to make the OSU community aware of significant items in the media. Content appearing includes timely news and feature stories from broadcast, print and online sources. Occasionally, opinion pieces and first-person columns appearing in mainstream media outlets that are written by faculty members and pertain to their academic or professional expertise may be included based on their unique, informative value, timeliness and space constraints. "These ocean changes mean big problems for the future of people,” says Jane Lubchenco, a marine ecologist at Oregon State University in Corvallis and former head of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Ecampus Testing: Ecampus Testing invites you to learn more about resources available to Ecampus and on-campus students who take classes online. Attend an informational session and tour the Ecampus proctoring facilities in the Milne Computing Center basement on Friday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from the online proctoring service ProctorU will provide demonstrations and answer questions about online proctoring. The Ecampus Student Success team will also be present to share information about resources for Ecampus students and faculty. No registration is required for this drop-in event.
Cheese sales: Time to restock your fridge and your bellies with Beaver Classic Cheese. Come try five cheddars, two Swiss, two Provolones and cheese curds. Today from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at 159 Withycombe Hall. You can also find them at the Saturday downtown Corvallis Farmer's Market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Meat Center: The Clark Meat Science Center retail store will be open Friday from noon to 5:30 p.m. Products include fresh and cooked/smoked sausages, bacon, retail cuts, jerky, snack sticks, and Beaver Classic cheese. Climate March and Rally: Sunrise Club, in solidarity with the Corvallis Climate Action Alliance, is marching for city climate action this Friday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. from the MU quad. Other marches will take place across town and are all convening at Riverfront Park downtown, where a rally will take place until 5 p.m. OSU students, faculty, and staff can participate and bring signs. Discovery Day: Oregon State University - Cascades invites the public to visit its growing Central Oregon campus Sept. 28 for the second annual Discovery Day celebration, a community festival including talks, research demonstrations and hands-on activities. Discovery Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival will include tours of the campus public art collection and the future expansion area, a rock climbing wall, children’s activities and more. Giustina Gallery at OSU to exhibit "My Secret Double" Oct. 1-30: “My Secret Double – an International Exhibition,” featuring the works of artists from the Northwest and the Baltics, will be on display Oct. 1-30 in the Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. The exhibit captures artists’ personal journeys during their struggle with addiction or depression, including anger, suicide, fear and loss of hope. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
Flu Shot Clinics: The Office of Human Resources in partnership with Fred Meyer Pharmacies will offer flu shot clinics for faculty, staff and their dependents age 7 or above on Oct. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Oct 8, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in MU 109. Bring your insurance card and photo ID (for billing). Wear short sleeves. Plan on staying for five minutes after receiving the vaccination. If paying at the time of service, payment by cash (with exact change) or check will be the only methods of payment accepted. PEBB Statewide (Providence), Providence Choice and Moda plans will cover the cost of the flu vaccinations. Employees with Kaiser insurance must pay at the time of vaccination, or go to a Kaiser facility for a free flu shot.

Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. UPDATED! Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training: Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students? This makes it especially important for campus community members to equip ourselves with knowledge that enables us to recognize and help when someone is in need. CAPS invites students, faculty, and staff to attend our Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Workshops. Participants will learn how suicide impacts us nationwide and here at OSU, how to identify the signs and symptoms of emotional distress, and how to help or intervene if someone you know is considering suicide.
