Newport booster clinic: OSU’s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport will be hosting a COVID-19 booster clinic Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Guin Library Seminar Room. Pfizer bivalent boosters will be available for those 12 and older while supplies last. Boosters are free and no ID or insurance is required. Please bring your CDC vaccination card. Music à la Carte: Oregon Symphony Bassoon Trio. Join us for a casual, lunchtime recital in the Memorial Union Lounge, featuring a program from members of the Oregon Symphony: Carin Miller, Vincent Igusa and Kai Rock. This bassoon trio will perform a program varying from Grandos Walzes to Lowell Shaw Tripperies. Sept. 30 at noon. Free, open to all.

Anthropology Lecture Series — Kirsten Hextrum, “The Tyranny of Athletic Merit: Privilege and Power in College Admissions.” Hextrum is an assistant professor in the OSU School of Language, Culture and Society. The lecture is free and open to OSU faculty and students. College of Public Health and Human Sciences Friday Research Seminar: “Healthy Oregon Project – current research and future opportunities” will be presented from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, HFC 115 and Zoom, by Jackie Shannon, professor at OHSU-PSU School of Public Health.

Literary Northwest Series: Sindya Bhanoo. The School of Writing, Literature and Film begins fall term with the first speaker in the Literary Northwest Series. Fiction writer and OSU assistant professor Sindya Bhanoo, author of the story collections, “Seeking Fortune Elsewhere,” will give a reading in The Valley Library Rotunda. Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all. More information.

Dept. of Public Safety to host Coffee with a Cop event on Oct. 3: Join Oregon State University’s Department of Public Safety for the upcoming Coffee with a Cop event from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3. The event will be held in the covered patio area of the SEC Plaza. Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for members of the university and the Corvallis community to meet with OSU’s police and public safety officers in a casual setting to ask questions and share ideas. Free fresh brewed coffee will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

4-H Open House in Benton County: The annual 4-H Open House takes place Oct. 6, 6:30 p.m., at the Benton County Fairgrounds Solar Building. Benton County 4-H serves over 3,000 youth annually through community clubs, school programs and camps. Youth who are 9-19 years of age as of Sept. 1, 2022, are eligible to join 4-H. The organization also offers a 4-H Cloverbud program for children 5-8 years old as of Sept. 1, 2022. For more information, see the website.

Reporting workplace injuries: The University Health & Safety Committee wants to promote health and safety by reminding employees that all on the job near-miss/accident/injuries, or work-related illness should be reported to your supervisor immediately, so that your supervisor can ensure that any potential hazards are addressed. Supervisors should document and report these to the University via the HR Advocate Public Incident Reporting form, which is available online at https://risk.oregonstate.edu/workerscomp/forms. You can also access OSU’s University Health & Safety Committee online at http://ehs.oregonstate.edu/uhsc, including past meeting minutes, information on how to contact a committee member, and a link to report safety concerns online.

Winter course materials: The OSU Beaver Store is accepting Winter 2023 course materials adoptions starting Oct. 4. Faculty or designated staff can submit course material adoptions here: https://beavs.osubeaverstore.com/adoptions/. Recruiting participants for bicycling simulator experiment: The OSU Bicycling Simulator lab is seeking participants for an experiment who are at least 18 years old and have ridden a bicycle in the last 10 years. The purpose of this study is to make autonomous vehicles safer for bicyclists. Participation involves a one-hour time commitment and coming to the OSU Bicycling Simulator. Participants will be compensated $20 for their time. National Transfer Student Week: Every third week of October, OSU participates in National Transfer Student Week, celebrating and honoring our transfer students. Notice of policy action: The university community is invited to review and provide comment on a proposed university policy, which may be found on the What's New page of the University Policy & Standards website. The policy is University Policy 07-026 Vehicle Use for University Business. Comments must be received by Oct. 10.

Research Office System Update to Cayuse Human Ethics: The Research Office is excited to announce that the Human Research Protections Program is transitioning the IRB protocol submission module to Cayuse Human Ethics. The last day for PIs to submit any materials through the old system, iRIS, is Oct. 3. For more information and actions PIs will need to take, please see our newly-updated HRPP Cayuse HE Transition website and FAQs.  

OSU Flu clinic: To register for the Oct. 5 flu clinic, to be held in the MU Ballroom, participants must complete the sign-up process by Sept. 30. Follow the directions carefully. Detailed directions are located here. Free COVID tests: Free iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests are available on the Corvallis and Bend campuses and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Each box contains two tests. While supplies last, OSU community members can pick up these self-test kits without restrictions. Please note the FDA has extended the self-test kit expiration dates by six months.
