The testing will be done by Oregon State University labs and is funded through an Oregon Health Authority grant. The project will cost an estimated $155,806. The CDC is also keeping its eye on the results to see if it is a viable tool in the future.
"We found that adults and children with rare diseases had significantly poor health related to quality of life and stigma in all domains compared to the U.S. general population," said Kathleen Bogart, an associate professor of psychology at OSU and the lead researcher on the study.
“These are really favorable conditions for Republicans,” said Christopher Stout, associate professor of political science at Oregon State University. “But the last couple weeks have kind of switched that around.” (see also US News & World Report)

The red crossbill, a migratory species of songbird native to Oregon, is able to adapt its body and behavior in response to social information from other birds indicating changes in food supply. That’s according to new research by Jamie Cornelius, an assistant professor in integrative biology at Oregon State University.
“We’re very far from being prepared. We’re just getting started with retrofitting important buildings like hospitals,” said Dr. Chris Goldfinger, one of the leading experts on the Cascadia Subduction Zone and a current professor at Oregon State University.
“It makes you wonder what all else is out there, swimming in our oceans and maybe right in front of us,” says Robert Pitman, a marine ecologist and beaked whale expert at Oregon State University, who was not involved with the recent Sato’s sighting. He marvels that the species could remain an enigma in Japan, with its thriving community of cetacean researchers.
“These impacts are influencing population growth rates,” said Joshua Stewart, assistant professor at the Oregon State University Marine Mammal Institute. Since the 1980s, the New England Aquarium has been monitoring this population and recording a range of data, from individual health, ship strikes and entanglements to birthing events.
