Thanks in large part to nearly two decades of research, testing and training support from Oregon State University’s College of Engineering, a new age for nuclear power is set to begin Wednesday.

A statement from Oregon State University described the study: The research team used a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to deploy a hydrophone about 10 kilometers [six miles] off Heceta Bank on the Oregon continental margin in 1,228 meters of water (about three-fourths of a mile deep).
In contrast to traditional farming methods, no-till leaves all of the crop residue — the part of the plant not harvested — on the surface instead of plowed under. The root systems of the plants remain intact, providing soil stability, according to Donald Wysocki, a soil scientist at Oregon State University Extension in Pendleton, Ore.
Bahman Abassi came to the university last year because it supported his vision for sustainably produced fresh water.
The findings by Oregon State University researchers and other collaborators, published Wednesday in Nanomedicine, are important because SSIs are the most common health care-associated infection and result in widespread human suffering and economic loss. (see also Medical Device Network)
Cascade is often cited as America’s signature hop. The variety was bred at Oregon State University, and since its first release in the 1970s, has gone on to become the go-to hop used is many of craft brewing’s seminal beers, including Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Cascade has also long been one of the most-farmed hops in the U.S., including as recently as last year, when it made up about 13 percent of all hops grown in the country by acre.
Getting college credit for brewing and drinking beer? It sounds like a fantasy — but in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University it’s serious business. With a newly upgraded brewery and a flock of dedicated students, this program is unique and well respected.
Craft beer had a reputation for being snobby; now it’s earning one for being ridiculous. “Personally, I think it is a novelty,” Thomas Shellhammer, a food science and technology professor at Oregon State University, said of CBD beer. He’s not the only one who thinks CBD beer is merely an attention-grabber.
Plants take up nutrients from the soil but when those nutrients are missing, it's time for fertilizer. "Plants pull out nutrients as they grow," said Weston Miller, a horticulturist with Oregon State University Extension Service. "Unless they're put back in, the plant suffers."

Northwest Hardwoods has donated $25,000 worth of lumber to the new Forestry Complex at Oregon State University. The lumber donation of alder wood will uniquely and innovatively be used as cladding for the outside of the new building.
The advantage of 3-D printing is the ability to print more elaborate things than can be made with traditional manufacturing, said Oregon State University graduate student and science educator Aaron J. Fillo.
"I was really impressed with how green it was," said Lisa Ellsworth, a fire ecologist from Oregon State University who accompanied Jennings on the flight.

OSMSC Undergraduate/Graduate Proteomics Summer Research Opportunity: The Oregon State University Mass Spectrometry Center (OSMSC) is offering proteomics research opportunities during summer of 2018 for undergraduate/graduate research projects. Accepted students will conduct their proposed research during the summer term with the technical support provided by OSMSC. The OSMSC will waive the training fee for all accepted students and will provide an allowance of total eight hours of free mass spectrometer instrument time and data analysis time to each student for the conduct of their summer research. NEW! Fiscal Policy – Rule 03-120-404 Relocation Allowance replaces FIS 415 Relocation and Moving. Due to recent tax law changes, all payments made to employees related to moving and relocation are now 100 percent tax reportable and subject to income tax withholdings. This new policy provides a relocation allowance, if included in the employee offer, rather than a reimbursement requiring additional documentation. Use of Drones/Unmanned Aircraft Systems for OSU operations and research: As of May 15, 2018, the OSU special authorization, known as the “COA,” to fly Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for research purposes expired but OSU can continue to operate under Small Unmanned Aircraft Regulations Part 107. Going forward all OSU community members must fly under the oversight of an individual who has a “part 107” FAA remote pilot’s license, if that flight is for official OSU activity, including research. Additionally to obtain liability and insurance coverage through OSU, the flight operations must be logged with the OSU flight log system, found at: http://research.oregonstate.edu/uas-osu/unmanned-aerial-systems-oregon-state-university/uas-flight-reporting. OSU seeks to support the OSU UAS community and provides free access to training to prepare for the Part 107 remote pilot test and will also provide a licensed pilot for research use, if needed. Noise plan: Are you exposed to loud noise at work? Find out more about OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program and Noise Control Plan. The goal of OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program is to monitor and protect employees who have the potential to develop noise-induced hearing loss – a preventable, permanent and progressive health issue. In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health Services provides annual hearing testing for those exposed to loud noise on the job. Student Researchers at OSU-Cascades Energy Systems Lab Place in National Design Competition: Student researchers in OSU-Cascades Energy Systems Lab competed against universities nationwide and this week earned an Honorable Mention at the Hydrogen Education Foundation’s Design Contest on Power to Gas. Their design uses natural gasto take advantage of renewable energy that might otherwise be lost. NW Natural sponsored the student researchers.
