OSU presidential search process starts with statewide listening sessions: The OSU Board of Trustees will hold 10 listening sessions around Oregon to gather input from the public and university stakeholders regarding OSU’s strengths, the challenges the university will face over the next decade, and the attributes that the university’s next president should possess. The Cooperative Open Reporting Environment is OSU's central tool for accessing official university reports and institutional data. All OSU employees have access to CORE reports and dashboards based on their employment classification and job profile. The annual da Vinci Days STEAM Speaker Series will offer the public opportunities to explore the art and science of waves, from the depths of the ocean to the haunting tones of a one-of-a-kind musical instrument and the intersections of art and water. Following the theme of “Making Waves,” the free, family-friendly presentations will be held every Tuesday in April at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2500 S.W. Western Ave. in Corvallis. April 23, “Water Stories: An artist’s journey,” will feature  Shelley Jordon, a nationally known artist and professor in the OSU College of Liberal Arts. The talks begin at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Great Barrier Reef: What are its Chances?: Seminar by Terry Hughes, director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. An important aspect of Hughes’ research is understanding the dynamics and resilience of coral reefs and translating this knowledge into innovative and practical solutions for improved reef management. The seminar will be hosted in the LaSells Stewart Center's Construction and Engineering Hall on Thursday, April 25 from 3-4 p.m. The event will also feature an OSU Science Panel from 4:15 to 5 p.m. and a marine science poster session from 5-6 p.m. This event is open to faculty and staff, students and the general public. Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. NEW! Fall 2019 On-campus Housing Move-In, Volunteer Opportunity, and Early Arrival: Fall 2019 move-in for the residence halls will take place Sunday, Sept. 22. Are you exposed to loud noise at work? Find out more about OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program and Noise Control Plan. The goal of OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program is to monitor and protect employees who have the potential to develop noise-induced hearing loss – a preventable, permanent and progressive health issue. In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health Services provides annual hearing tests for those exposed to loud noise on the job. Training is available through the EH&S website. Contact Occupational Health or Environmental Health and Safety with questions.

Taste Testers Wanted: A fun and tasty way to participate in food research. The OSU Center for Sensory & Consumer Behavior Research is looking for panelists for consumer taste tests. Hackathon 4 is Here: The OSU Hackathon is a daylong event where team members work together to solve a problem or build something new. All OSU employees are invited to participate. The registration deadline is Tuesday, April 23, so form a team and do it soon – space is limited. Projects are not limited to coding or technology. The Hackathon will be held Friday, May 3. Fiscal policy: After implementing the fiscal policy for Communications Allowance earlier this year (replacing FIS 410-02 & 410-33), it was discovered that another related policy existed for Internet Services and Other Mobile Devices (previously FIS 410-30). As a result, a new version of the recently implemented fiscal policy has been developed to incorporate information from all three of the old FIS policies. The new Fiscal Policy – Rule 03-140-501 Communication Services provides further clarification on options available to employees who use a personal communication device and/or internet service for business purposes. Traffic & Maintenance 

Scheduled: Campus Wide Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building. This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide. The steam shutdown for 2019 will occur from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 p.m. on June 20.
