New, heat-efficient nanoparticles kill hard-to-reach cancer, OSU researchers say (KGW)

Oregon State University scientists have taken nanotechnology to a new level targeting cancer cells. They have developed a new heat-efficient nanoparticles, improving their previous cancer fighting ability.
 

OSU receives federal grant to study climate change impacts on two key ocean species (Jefferson Public Radio)

The Oregon State University research will focus on Dungeness crab and krill. Both species are threatened by multiple stressors, including ocean acidification, algal blooms, and increasing ocean temperatures caused by climate change.

STEM club: Registration for STEM Academy's VIRTUAL AWSEM Club for 8th-10th graders is open. AWSEM=Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Math. Mid-Month Emergency Preparedness Topic: Clothing in Disaster. Essential clothing for a disaster supply is a commonly overlooked area of preparedness. If a person does not have the proper clothing suitable for the terrain they are in, then harsh elements such as rain, cold and snow can have catastrophic effects. Spoken word artists sought: Seeking spoken word artists for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Breakfast on Jan.16, 2023, which commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while honoring members of the OSU community who carry his message and work forward today. The spoken word artists will perform one piece pertaining to social justice during the breakfast program. Call for Applications: Career Champions Program. Applications for the winter 2023 Career Champions program for teaching faculty and instructors are now being accepted. The Career Champions program provides faculty and instructors with tangible ways to incorporate career connection into the classroom while advancing diversity, equity and inclusion and examining the barriers to access for first-generation, high-financial need, and/or students of color. Free COVID tests: Free iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests are available on the Corvallis and Bend campuses and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Each box contains two tests. While supplies last, OSU community members can pick up these self-test kits without restrictions. Please note the FDA has extended the self-test kit expiration dates by six months.
