University of Oregon, Oregon State University see record high enrollment despite COVID-19 (Register-Guard)

OSU hit an all-time enrollment high this year, keeping its title as the biggest public university in the state. There are 34,108 students enrolled this fall, an increase of 748 students (or 2.2%) over last year, according to its latest enrollment report.

OSU gear going quick as rivalry game approaches (Democrat-Herald)

With the Oregon/Oregon State rivalry game coming up on Nov. 27, sales in Beaver gear are spiking as OSU fans prepare to wash out the yellow and green with orange and black in Autzen Stadium. OSU licensing manager Carson Dunlap said that while the pandemic has impacted the sales of licensed products, OSU continues to enjoy strong brand interest and excitement from Beaver nation.
 

Jason D. Dorsette to leave OSU, head to LBCC as diversity exec (Democrat-Herald)

Dorsette, who currently serves as the associate director of the Educational Opportunities Program at Oregon State University, will begin his new position on Jan. 10. He has held multiple positions in the Office of Diversity and Cultural Engagement at OSU, and has spent time working with community college students of color transferring into the university. He also serves as a faculty member in OSU’s transfer student transition course and teaches African American Studies for undergraduates.

Noise at work: Are you exposed to loud noise at work? Find out more about OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program and Noise Control Plan. The goal of OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program is to monitor and protect employees who have the potential to develop noise-induced hearing loss. In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health Services provides annual hearing tests for those exposed to loud noise on the job. Training is available through the EH&S website. Contact Occupational Health or Environmental Health and Safety with questions.

MLK awards open: Nominations are open for the 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Awards, honoring OSU community members who exemplify qualities of service and selflessness. This year, nominations will be accepted for four awards: The Phyllis S. Lee Award, the Frances Dancy Hooks Award, the Oscar Humberto Montemayor Award and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award. Submit your events for the 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration week: Departments, units, offices, organizations and individuals are invited to submit events for the 40th annual celebration. These events are intended to collaboratively learn about, reflect on and carry on the legacy of Dr. King and are an important part of the annual celebration. Learn more on the events website. Call for Applications: Career Champions Program. Applications for the winter 2022 Career Champions program are now being accepted. The program provides faculty and instructors with tangible ways to incorporate career connection into the classroom, while advancing diversity, equity and inclusion and examining the barriers to access for first-generation, high financial need, and/or students of color. More information can be found on the Center for Teaching and Learning website. Deadline to complete the application form is Dec. 1.

COVID testing: Oregon State University, in collaboration with Willamette Valley Toxicology, is providing on-site COVID-19 testing. OSU employees and students, regardless of vaccination status, are welcome to obtain a test at one of these locations: Corvallis: The LaSells Stewart Center: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Student Experience Center: Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Testing will cease on Thanksgiving Day and the day after. Dec. 9-10, only the SEC location will be open. During Winter Break, only the SEC location will be open, and its hours will be limited to Tuesdays and Wednesdays only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only WVT will provide testing over the break for travel purposes. Student Health Services will not be providing testing for travel purposes. (For staff wanting to get a test voluntarily, please make sure to have registered for a lab dash account prior to coming to test in order to save time: https://labdash.net/.) Bend: Ray Hall 302, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.

Traffic and Maintenance

Reser Stadium lot: For work related to the Completing Reser Stadium project, the west area of the Reser Stadium lot (lot #3281) will be closed from Nov. 22 through Dec. 10. Exterior saw-cutting work is scheduled for an electrical reroute. An extended closure for the west area of the Reser Stadium lot is also scheduled starting Nov. 22 through June 15, 2023. The area will be used for a contractor job site and temporary storage space (view map).

Leaf pickup: Starting Nov. 22, more than 20 parking lots and the OSU parking garage will be closed for sweeping and leaf pickup. Parking lots will reopen as the work is completed, and all lots are expected to be reopened by the end of the business day on Nov. 24. Furman Hall: As part of the Community Hall Slope Project, excavation and storm pipe installation work is scheduled along the south side of Furman Hall starting Thursday, Nov. 18 through Nov. 24. A sidewalk closure will be in place. Pedestrians will be able to access Furman Hall via the east entrance (view map).
