Free bike registration: OSU’s Department of Public Safety and Transportation Services is hosting a bike registration event on Sept. 26 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the McNary Dining Quad. The event is free. Registering your bike with 529 Garage is a tool used by law enforcement to reduce bike theft and obtain information such as serial numbers and photos in the event your bike is stolen. You can also register for ZAP Oregon State, a free bike commute rewards program for Oregon State University students and employees.

Apply now for the Ecampus Research Fellows Program: If you’re interested in conducting research about online teaching and learning, the Ecampus Research Unit will help you plan your proposal for the Ecampus Research Fellows Program. The Research Unit annually funds up to five faculty and/or department projects — $25,000 each — to support research on distance and online education. Elliott State Research Forest Forest Management Plan listening session: A public listening session will be held on Sept. 27 to discuss recent drafts of the Forest Management Plan being developed by OSU. Loan forgiveness: Oregon State University is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. PSLF is designed to provide student debt forgiveness to public service employees in certain situations. On Sept. 28 at noon, OSU will be hosting a webinar regarding Public Service Loan Forgiveness and the temporary waiver to this program that is active through Oct. 31. Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue: This 10-hour course teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional or risky topics at all levels of your organization. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), you’ll surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on those decisions with unity and commitment. This program consists of a series of five live, online sessions on Thursdays 10 a.m. to noon, Oct. 6 through Nov. 3. Research Office System Update to Cayuse Human Ethics: The Research Office is excited to announce that the Human Research Protections Program is transitioning the IRB protocol submission module to Cayuse Human Ethics. The last day for PIs to submit any materials through the old system, iRIS, is Oct. 3. For more information and actions PIs will need to take, please see our newly-updated HRPP Cayuse HE Transition website and FAQs.

Mutual Mentors: Classroom observations are a critical component noted in OSU's Faculty Handbook and have rich benefits for both the observer and the observed. This term-long, hybrid program offers experiential learning opportunities to develop the skills and behaviors needed to conduct classroom observations and simultaneously advance Quality Teaching (QT). Launching the week of Sept. 26, it is not too late to register with CTL: https://beav.es/mutualmentors.

Internationalization grant application now open: The Office of Faculty Affairs Internationalization Grant is open to all OSU professional and academic faculty and INTO OSU employees. The program awards up to $5,000 for projects that advance the university’s internationalization agenda. OSU Advantage: The OSU Advantage Innovation Impact Program is accepting applications for its fall Accelerate cohort which begins Oct. 4. Accelerate is open to teams who want to launch high-growth businesses or explore the commercialization potential of an idea. Upon completion of the hybrid program, teams will have a five-minute pitch deck, product market validation, mentor feedback and more. The nine-week program takes place on Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. Learn more & apply by Sept. 27.

OSU IT Year in Review 2022: The OSU IT Year in Review 2022 website and annual report is now available to the OSU community (OSU Login required). This year’s report highlights IT accomplishments across OSU during the 2021-22 academic year. We've made significant strides to unify the way IT works for OSU and cultivating an IT community with shared vision and goals – enabling us to architect a modern institution that is ready to deliver on its missions across teaching and learning, research, and extension and engagement. 

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) provides public service employees with federal student debt forgiveness, in certain situations, after 10 years or 120 consecutive monthly payments. On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced a change to Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program rules for a limited time as a result of the COVID-19 national emergency. Now, for a limited time, borrowers may receive credit for past periods of repayment that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF. The waiver ends Oct. 31, 2022. Join a representative from the Department of Education as they discuss the PSLF program, and the steps borrowers need to take to make sure they get credit under the Limited PSLF Waiver. Sept. 28, noon. Register for this webinar.

4-H volunteers: 4-H volunteers are the key to a successful 4-H program and create positive life-changing experiences for youth. Oregon has more than 6,000 adult and teen volunteers who offer their time and talents to our program. Benton County 4-H is home to over 200 of those volunteers. New volunteers receive a comprehensive orientation and training specific to their role, no knowledge or experience is required. Traffic and Maintenance

Full road closure for section of U.S. 20: ODOT is working on a construction project to build a retaining wall, realigning and reconstructing a portion of the road and repairing damage caused by landslides on Hwy 20. Work includes fixing the road surface from milepost 55.4 to milepost 55.6 and milepost 56 to milepost 56.2 to create a smoother ride and prevent water from pooling. If you use this route for work at OSU-Cascades, research, field work or other travel, note that a two-week full road closure is scheduled Sept. 9-22. Detour information is available online. Expect daytime single lane closures Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. through October 2022.
