Agility Robotics' Jonathan Hurst to keynote robotics summit (Robot Report)

Agility Robotics has been working since it spun out of Oregon State University in 2015 to bring humanoid robots out of the lab and into the real world. The company has made great strides in making its robots fit for bulk material handling tasks like tote movement.

“What makes it different is genetic capability of the plant to produce a particular type of cannabinoid in the plant,” says Strat Noller, professor emeritus at Oregon State University and founder and former director of the Global Hemp Innovation Center. He adds that in order to be compliant in the United States, hemp must have about 20 to 23 times more CBD than THC. 
 

Scientists challenge US wildlife director's qualifications (FOX 40)

The scientists include Dave Parsons, who led government efforts to reintroduce the endangered Mexican gray wolf in the Southwest; two board members and a scientist with Silver Spring, Maryland-based Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility; well-known biology professors Paul and Anne Ehrlich at Stanford University; and wolf experts William Ripple and Robert Beschta from Oregon State University.

Parisian rooftop farm: Dominique Bachelet says, “This is a photo of a few students from the Study Abroad Program in 2022 in Paris, France, visiting Agripolis, the largest urban rooftop farm in Europe with examples of effective aeroponics and hydroponics that reduce water use and allow the easy distribution of fresh produce to an urban area. Board of Trustees: The Oregon State University Board of Trustees will meet April 13-14 to consider tuition rates for the next academic year, the construction of a proposed student success center at OSU-Cascades, the university’s 10-year business forecast and stipends for certain members of public boards. The board will meet from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 in the Horizon Room of the Memorial Union on the Corvallis campus. Board committees will meet April 13 from 8 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. in the same location. Department of Integrative Biology Grad Student Association seminar: Shaz Zamore, teaching assistant professor, Atlas Institute, CU Boulder will present a seminar, “Communicating Bench Research: inclusive STEAM education approaches” at 11 a.m. April 14 in a hybrid presentation. Speaker funding available: The President’s Commission on the Status of Women has funding available for groups seeking to engage speakers (virtually or in person) whose message supports PCOSW’s mission of advancing gender equity at OSU. Yarn donations requested: The OSU Craft Center has a weekly crochet club for OSU students. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to find community, learn and engage in a stress-releasing craft. This club is free; the craft center provides a gifted student crochet lead to teach and provide help as well as crochet hooks. Yarn donations are currently being sought from the community. Raising Awareness for Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Prevention: During the month of April, Cedar and the rest of the Department of Public Safety team will be wearing blue and teal DPS pins to raise awareness for child abuse and sexual assault prevention. The blue pins support Prevent Child Abuse Oregon in their effort to strengthen families and proactively protect children from abuse. The teal pins support the National Sexual Violence Resource Center in their work to end all forms of oppression, build racial equity and prevent all forms of sexual abuse, harassment and assault. Award nominations sought: The President’s Commission on the Status of Women is currently accepting nominations for the University Mentoring and Professional Development award. Faculty Innovator award: This is the last week to submit nominations for the 2023 Faculty Innovator Award. This award honors an outstanding Oregon State University inventor who has made a contribution leading to commercialization that significantly impacts their field and society. The awardee’s department also will receive $5,000. Nomination deadline is April 14.
