OSU hosting virtual and in-person conference focused on women in music June 2-4 (OSU News) 

“Call and (Her) Response: Music in the Time of Change” is the 2022 conference for the International Alliance for Women in Music. Held every three years, the conference highlights music compositions by women and research about women in music.
OSU students, faculty and staff can register for the conference for free, and residents of Benton County can attend several of the main lectures and concerts for free thanks to a grant from the Benton County Cultural Trust.

Gerontology conference: The 45th Annual OSU Gerontology Conference will take place on Friday, June 3 at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center. Metabolic Research Study: We are examining how insulin release is triggered by tasting carbohydrates. Participants must be non-smokers and non-diabetic, aged 18-45. The study will involve having body measurements taken, having saliva collected, performing taste tests, having blood drawn and filling out dietary surveys. Ungrading Book Club: Have you been thinking about modifying your grading and assessment practices in time for next year? Recruiting participants for virtual reality experiment: Psychology researchers are seeking participants who are at least 18 years old, speak fluent English and have normal or corrected-to-normal vision for research aiming to explore how perception and movement interact in real and virtual environments. Participants will complete movement- and perception-based tasks for around one hour. Carbon Offsets for OSU Funded Travel: The Sustainability Office can help you reduce the greenhouse gas impact of your OSU-funded air and ground travel. With basic information about travel itineraries, we calculate the amount of carbon offsets needed and combine our purchasing power to make it easy for you and your department. Community Climate Survey: The 2022 Faculty and Staff Community Climate Survey launched on May 10 with an invitation from Interim Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Scott Vignos. Please check your email to access the survey link; the survey is open through June 3. The survey is administered every two years to gauge the opinions and perceptions of employees regarding their experience at OSU. It is one part of OSU’s broader efforts to create and sustain an inclusive and equitable university climate. To hear from as many people as possible, a $25 incentive will be provided to 50 randomly selected survey participants. The information participants enter for the incentive will not be linked to responses to the survey to ensure responses remain anonymous. Questions about the survey can be directed to OID at [email protected].

COVID-19 testing: Oregon State University, in collaboration with Willamette Valley Toxicology (WVT), is providing on-site COVID-19 testing for people without symptoms. OSU employees and students, regardless of vaccination status, are welcome to test at one of these locations: Corvallis: Lab tent outside Plageman Hall Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and Cascade Hall 120, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Bend: Outside Obsidian Hall Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Note: All employees will need a WVT Labdash account prior to testing.

Traffic and Maintenance

Utility tunnel: May 11-June 3. For work related to the Community Hall Slope Project, an access hatch to the utility tunnel will be removed and relocated. The current hatch is located on Jefferson Avenue across from Kerr Administration Building. Additional access hatches can be found west, north and east of this location. Communication lines in the tunnel in this area are temporarily supported and impede movement. Staff should avoid this area of the tunnel, if possible.

Washington Way: For work related to the Washington Way Improvement Project, a planned sidewalk closure along the north side of SW Washington Way is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. Friday, May 6 through 5 p.m. Monday, June 13. Pacific Power will be on site performing work related to the project (view map).
