Jayathi Murthy, the first woman of colour to head the Oregon State University (OSU) in the United States, says that it is important that women understand that STEM jobs are not just high-paying but they are also socially and economically empowering.
 

Shark with huge tail found washed up on beach in 'rare' find (Newsweek)

Common thresher sharks are found around the world in tropical and temperate waters. They usually congregate in the open ocean, but the sharks also sometimes come closer to shore. The species is most abundant within around 40 miles of the shore, according to Oregon State University.

Dr. Andrew Ketsdever leads the 1,000+ student campus of Oregon State University - Cascades Campus as its interim Vice President. Ketsdever joined OSU-Cascades in 2018 as an associate dean, overseeing degree programs in science, technology and engineering, and leading research and faculty diversity efforts.

Faculty Senate special session: The Faculty Senate will hold a Special Session 2-4 p.m., March 17, to respond to and clarify topics related to the Learning Outcome, Criteria, and Rationale (LOCR) Report. This Special Session is information only, and no motions nor amendments shall be accepted on the floor. It’s the Water: Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center presents “It’s the Water: An Exhibition of Painting and Photography by Seven Artists.” Featuring April Waters’ Antarctica paintings, and invited artists Rich Bergeman, Duncan Berry, Gary Buhler, Jeremy Burke, Rebecca Kiser and Katia Kyte. These artists focus on expressing the power, beauty and mystery of water, showing nature’s complex interrelationships. The exhibition is March 15-April 28. The Making of a Public Radio Show: A Conversation with the Team from Live Wire. Live Wire is a weekly radio variety program that features interviews with writers, musicians, activists, and other interesting folks, plus musical guests and comedy. Live Wire’s host, Luke Burbank, and executive producer, Laura Hadden, share over 30 years of Public Radio experience between them. OSU Associate Professor Elena Passarello has served as Live Wire’s Announcer since 2018. The event is 7:30-9 p.m. April 25 at The LaSells Stewart Center. Reserve a seat. This event will also be broadcast live on KBVR FM 88.7 and on the KBVR-FM website.

Washington Way: As part of the Washington Way Improvement project, Washington Way between 30th and 35th streets will be closed March 17. Flaggers will be present at the 35th St. intersection to direct traffic. Other possible impacts include dust, mud and noise near the construction site.
