Celebrating public art on the OSU-Cascades campus (Bend Bulletin)

Nature’s ability to create form — and destroy it — inspires stone sculptor Masayuki “Yuki” Nagase in his artwork. Included among the Bay Area artist’s public art installations are a trio of sculptures placed around the Oregon State University-Cascades campus and funded by the Oregon Arts Commission’s Percent for Art program. Central Oregon fire suppression, drought increasing mortality among trees (Bend Bulletin)

Winter cherry modeling is coming (Good Fruit Grower)

By this fall, cherry growers in the Northwest should have a site-specific online model to help them determine when they should turn on their wind machines or fire up their orchard heaters, something their grape-growing colleagues have had for several years. “That’s what we want,” said David Gibeaut, the Oregon State University researcher building the model.

Outstanding in her field (Oregon Wine Press)

After earning her bachelor’s and master’s in horticulture at Oregon State University, she worked at Croft. She also applied for a vineyard manager job but was not asked to interview. She remembers, “I was in a conversation with some people in the industry — they did not know I’d applied for that job — and someone said, ‘Two qualified women applied, but they were not given interviews because women can’t manage Latino crews.’ I didn’t say anything, but took note.”

OSU loves the 2000s (Eugene Weekly)

Oregon State University, known as a research school, must have been working on a time machine when it put together DAMJAM 2019 because it’s filled with 2000s nostalgia — a simpler time. The annual music festival, organized by the OSU student body, features Akon, who was popular in the 2000s, and former member of boyband Dream Street and solo artist Jesse McCartney.
