Timeless style: A collection of vintage clothing and accessories from the original Meier & Frank Department Store in downtown Portland is returning to the historic building this fall in a new window display designed by Oregon State University students. The pieces featured in the display window were chosen from among hundreds in the university’s Historic and Cultural Textile and Apparel Collection. Oregon State is leasing the second floor of the building for its new Portland Center. Classes began in the freshly remodeled, 39,509 square-foot space in September.

Board of Trustees: The Executive and Audit Committee of the OSU Board of Trustees will hold a telephonic meeting from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, to consider a recommendation of potential candidates for an anticipated trustee vacancy, the board’s 2020 calendar, and an audit progress report. The committee also will receive the annual compliance and ethics program report, an annual Office of General Counsel report, and a legislative update. Room 207 within the university’s Memorial Union will be open to the public as a site for listening to this meeting. The public also can listen to the meeting by calling the toll-free number listed on the agenda. Tour the Human Services Resource Center: The Human Services Resource Center is more than a food pantry. It’s a one-stop shop to help students get their basic needs met. Advisors, staff and faculty are invited to come get a tour at Champinefu Lodge and learn more about programs like the textbook library, cooking classes and emergency housing. Prospective student open house: Beaver Open House, an open house program for prospective students, will be in LaSells Stewart Center and the Memorial Union on Saturday, Nov. 17. There will be approximately 1200+  guests on campus, which may impact parking and retail food locations. Please welcome the guests while they are on campus.

Vienna Boys Choir: The Vienna Boys Choir will perform two shows, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m, in Corvallis on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the First United Methodist Church, 1165 N.W. Monroe St. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door for adults, and $10 in advance and $15 at the door for youth through age 18. OSU students are free with ID while there is seating available. Seating is general admission. Advance tickets may be purchased online at http://liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/SACevents. MLK Celebration: Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, author and advocate for social justice is the keynote speaker for the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration lecture on Mon., Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center. NEW! Bridging the arts and sciences: Carol Ryff will present “Bridging the arts and sciences for human betterment” at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the MU Horizon Room. Ryff is professor of psychology and director of the Institute on Aging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will be visiting OSU as a guest of the provost, the deans of the colleges of Public Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Engineering. Carol’s visit will highlight the developing partnerships among the three colleges in efforts to build healthier communities through arts and science. A reception will follow.

Research Office Faculty Orientation: Friday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Union Horizon Room. The Research Office will host a half-day Faculty Orientation. The event will acquaint you with the RO and how staff can help you find funding, submit proposals, manage your awards, ensure compliance and move your research outcomes into commercial space. Pursuing a Career in Science workshop: Join the College of Science for a career presentation and panel discussion by Young Alumni Awardee Justin Hall, who will present on "Observations and advice for pursuing a career in science” on Nov. 16, 1 p.m., in LPSC 402. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with three additional scientists: a portfolio operations analyst, a research professor and an R&D engineer.

Health in the Arab world: The College of Public Health and Human Sciences’ weekly research seminar will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in HFC 115, Bray Conference Room. Iman Nuwayhid, professor and dean at American University in Beirut, will present “Health in the Arab world: The social, the political, and identity.”

OHSU Medical School Panel: Interesting in learning what med school is about? Five students from the OHSU Medical School form a panel to answer questions on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Asian & Pacific Cultural Center. There will be a Q&A as well. Refreshments provided.

NEW! Help Create a Vision for the Corvallis Campus: Oregon State is embarking on an 18-month process to develop a physical vision for the future of the Corvallis campus. The  Physical Development Strategy will reflect the university’s values and vision from the Strategic Plan 4.0. Share your thoughts in an interactive survey. We’re looking to craft a development strategy that supports an environment that enhances your best OSU experiences, and also leads to a more welcoming and inclusive campus. Pet owner survey: The Oregon State University Human-Animal Interaction Lab is looking for pet owners to take a survey examining pet behavior and the human-pet relationship. The purpose of the survey is to assess how pet owners perceive the bond they have with their pet. If you are 18+ years old and own a pet you are eligible to participate. For individuals who own more than one pet, the survey can be taken multiple times (once for each pet) or a single time for a pet of your choice. AWSEM clubs: Registration for STEM Academy’s AWSEM (Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Math) Clubs for sixth- through 12th-graders is open. AWSEM clubs are designed to nurture girls’ interest in STEM by providing a program of hands-on activities paired with women STEM role models. Middle School club meets on Tuesdays, 5-6:30 p.m., from Jan. 15 through Feb. 19.
