Like thousands of other 20-somethings, Jasmine Garcia is graduating from college this weekend. The 22-year-old will get her degree in civil engineering with a minor in math from Oregon State University on Saturday.
 

Oregon wave energy testing facility moves forward (OPB)

A renewable energy project planned off the coast of Newport is taking a step forward.  Oregon State University has submitted a final license application for a wave energy testing facility with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  If built, it would be the largest of its kind in the United States.
 

OSU study finds wasp can help control stink bugs (KTVZ)

Attending Veterinarian candidate: The Research Office is hosting an open campus forum for Lynn Impelluso, candidate for the position of Attending Veterinarian/Laboratory Animal Resource Center director. The candidate will give a 40-minute presentation followed by Q&A. The forum is June 11 from 2-3 p.m. in Memorial Union 206.

Extension open house: OSU Extension Service of Benton County is holding an open house June 11. Door prizes, free publication giveaways, refreshments, well water nitrate screening, plant clinic, pH soil testing and dial gauge testing for pressure canners will be available. Naval ROTC Spring Commissioning: On June 14 at 10 a.m., the OSU Naval ROTC unit will gather on the Student Experience Center Plaza to commission 14 officers into the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The ceremony will involve the oath of office, assistance into uniform by the students’ families, rendering of the first salute, and remarks from Rear Adm. Jesse Wilson Jr.

Bioinformatics Users Group (BUG): “Machine learning for phenomics and association testing in genome-wide association studies of regeneration in poplar, i.e. how neural networks help us to see the phenes and the genes,” Michael Nagle (Steve Strauss lab), Wednesday, June 12, at noon in ALS 3006. Call to Artists: The Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center is hosting the 14th annual Community Art Exhibit. This exhibit provides artists of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to showcase their artwork in a non-juried show. The exhibit runs from July 17 to Aug. 22. Submission deadline is July 15. Leadership Collaborative Course - Managers as Leaders: Applications for LC: Managers as Leaders are now being accepted. Managers as Leaders is a skill-building course for managers and supervisors. It integrates six day-long class sessions with online learning and on-the-job practice. It features team learning, mentors, and practical tools. Traffic & Maintenance 

Scheduled: Campus Wide Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building. This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide. The steam shutdown for 2019 will occur from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 p.m. on June 20.
