Moderate, progressive face off in Oregon governor primary (WNYT)

"I think Tobias Read looks like a great Democratic candidate from like 10 years ago," said Christopher McKnight Nichols, an associate professor of history at Oregon State University. "But I don't know that his sort of family-oriented and slightly more moderate liberal Democratic kind of positioning is likely to resonate in 2022."

The basics of container gardening (Insiders)

Plants need nutrition to thrive in containers. Quality potting mixes will contain fertilizers, but nutrition will wane over time. Every couple of weeks, container plants will need either fresh potting mix or granular fertilizer added to feed them. Oregon State University Extension Services suggests using a slow-release fertilizer or worm castings several times throughout the season.

Make the most of a small garden with these brilliant space-saving ideas (MSN Malaysia)

You can actually prune certain types of fruit trees to grow against a wall, a process called espalier. Start with a 1- or 2-year-old tree and attach two supple branches to the wire about 18 inches off the ground, advises the Oregon State University Extension Service. Then take time as the seasons go on to prune your tree carefully.  (slide 23)

“There are no rules — it’s your garden,” says Brooke Edmunds , associate professor of community horticulture with Oregon State University Extension. “Don’t be afraid to try new things. You’ll get so much joy out of the pride of growing things yourself.”

And so silence collects, becomes amplified, takes on a life outside our intentions, in that silence can get misread as indifference, or avoidance, or even shame, and eventually this silence passes over into forgetting.” ~ Cathy Park Hong
