OSU professor: Gubernatorial race historic on many fronts (Pacific Northwest Ag Network)

Oregon’s gubernatorial race was historic on several fronts, three former state lawmakers, all women, all making a strong showing in polls prior to election night. Oregon State University Political Science Professor David Bernell said the outcome is also noteworthy, because it’s such a close vote.

Cows fed hemp produced milk with THC, researchers say (Washington Post)

“You’re not going to see CBD-enhanced milk on the shelf for a long time,” said Jeffrey Steiner, director of Oregon State University’s Global Hemp Innovation Center. Steiner, who was not part of the newly published research, has experimented on hemp as a feed supplement for dairy cows, sheep and poultry. Overall enrollment at Oregon public colleges, universities down this fall (OPB News)

Race to secure water as Oregonians face a drier future amid drought, climate change (Statesman Journal)

"There are changes, and we can't depend necessarily on the kind of precipitation we've had in the past," said William Jaeger, an applied economics professor at Oregon State University who studies natural resource and water economics. "To the extent we are seeing more frequent droughts in terms of dry periods in spring and summer on this side of the Cascades, that's going to be a problem in the Willamette Basin, and it's going to be a larger problem than it used to be." Recommended new books on filmmaking (The Film Stage)

In Road Trip to Nowhere, Jon Lewis (Oregon State)s’ highly engaging book about the explosive (literally, in the case of Zabriskie Point) collision between Hollywood and the counterculture, the author smartly zeroes in on the zeitgeist-altering films and key figures. These include individuals whose lives ended up destroyed (Jean Seberg, Mark Frechette), some whose work was unappreciated for decades (Barbara Loden), a few battle-hardened survivors (Jane Fonda and Dennis Hopper), and one whose odd path is almost incomprehensible (Christopher Jones).
