When he's not teaching at Georgia Tech, he can often be found at Oregon State University, in the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory, located 40 miles inland in Corvallis.
“What our study shows is that you can wait 12 hours without eating anything, then eat a fat-containing meal and vitamin E gets absorbed,” said Maret Traber, Ph.D., lead study author and professor at Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute.

“Going from chilly to balmy weather can stimulate more recreation, and our data and models bear that out,” says Steven Dundas, corresponding author of the study and an assistant professor of applied economics at Oregon State University. “But increasing temperature when it’s already hot can curtail fishing participation. For example, we estimate participation declines once daily high temperatures reach the mid-90s Fahrenheit.”
Researchers used eight years’ of data — from 2006 to 2013 — on crime rates, pollution, wildfire smoke and weather to calculate the correlations. These included crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations’ National Incident Based Reporting System; pollution data from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Quality System network of monitors and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Hazard Mapping System; and weather data from Oregon State University’s PRISM Climate Group.
Councilors voted 5-4, with Mayor Biff Traber breaking a 4-4 tie, on the second reading Monday of an ordinance that backs an Oregon State University development sector swap. The vote, pending possible appeals, will allow the university to move forward with a 295-bed dormitory project for upper-division and graduate students.

Film Screening “Survival of the Sunbears”: Fisheries and Wildlife student Jocelyn Stokes has directed a 30-minute film focused on the conservation efforts by nonprofits in Malaysia to protect this highly endangered species. Register for a CIM Training Session: OSU will implement a new curriculum proposal system in Fall 2019 called CIM (pronounced ‘Kim’), which will replace the current CPS. A representative from the vendor, Leepfrog, will be on the Corvallis campus Oct. 16-17 to provide training sessions on how to use CIM. Everyone who interacts with the current CPS or anticipates needing to propose, review or approve curriculum proposals in future, should attend this training.
