Come to OSU Discovery Days: Faculty, staff and their families are invited to participate in Discovery Days on April 23-24 at the LaSells Stewart Center. This hands-on event is aimed at elementary-aged kids and will feature activities on chemistry, biology, physics and botany. “What Were You Wearing?” is an art exhibit based on student-survivor descriptions of the clothes they were wearing during their sexual assault. The exhibit supports survivors and confronts the myth that clothing choices cause sexual violence. The exhibit will be available on April 24 at the SEC plaza and the Native American Longhouse Eena Haws as well as online at http://www.forestry.oregonstate.edu/wwyw.

Denim Day: This Sexual Assault Awareness Month event is sponsored by SARC with the goal to start conversations about destructive attitudes surrounding sexual violence, primarily victim blaming. ROTC Joint Service Olympics: This event will happen across campus Wednesday, April 24, from 6 to 7:30 a.m. JSO is a competition between the Army, Air Force and Naval Marine ROTC units. NEW! University budget conversation: The Office of Budget & Fiscal Planning is holding a University Budget Conversation April 25 at noon the Memorial Union 215. This week’s topic is about OSU Foundation funds. The Budget Conversations sessions are limited to 60 minutes and are an open forum structure with the initial 15-20 minutes spent on presentation of the topic, leaving time for discussion and Q&A. Great Barrier Reef: What are its Chances?: Seminar by Terry Hughes, director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. An important aspect of Hughes’ research is understanding the dynamics and resilience of coral reefs and translating this knowledge into innovative and practical solutions for improved reef management. The seminar will be hosted in the LaSells Stewart Center's Construction and Engineering Hall on Thursday, April 25 from 3-4 p.m. The event will also feature an OSU Science Panel from 4:15 to 5 p.m. and a marine science poster session from 5-6 p.m. This event is open to faculty and staff, students and the general public. Speech Communication Lecture: Jennifer Stevens Aubrey, from the University of Arizona, will present “Self-Objectification in Adolescence: Investigating the Roles of Traditional Media and New Communication Technology Contexts” on Thursday, April 25, in LINC 228, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Her research focuses on how media affects the health of young people, including issues related to sexuality and body image.

Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Fall 2019 On-campus Housing Move-In, Volunteer Opportunity, and Early Arrival: Fall 2019 move-in for the residence halls will take place Sunday, Sept. 22. Student Support in the Undergrad Research & Writing Studio: The Undergrad Research & Writing Studio, located in the Valley Library, encourages faculty to hold class meetings in the studio and take advantage of its flexible workspaces, including modular tables and large display monitors suitable for collaboration. Studio consultants (peer mentors who specialize in research and writing support) are available to work with students during the visit. Are you exposed to loud noise at work? Find out more about OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program and Noise Control Plan. The goal of OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program is to monitor and protect employees who have the potential to develop noise-induced hearing loss – a preventable, permanent and progressive health issue. In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health Services provides annual hearing tests for those exposed to loud noise on the job. Training is available through the EH&S website. Contact Occupational Health or Environmental Health and Safety with questions.

Campus START orientation information session: New Student Programs & Family Outreach invites all OSU employees to attend a presentation on the details of the START summer orientation program. The presentation will cover a typical START session agenda, dates of sessions and FAQs you may get working on campus this summer. Traffic & Maintenance 

Scheduled: Campus Wide Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building. This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide. The steam shutdown for 2019 will occur from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 p.m. on June 20.
