OSU study suggests hemp compounds could help block coronavirus (KGW)

A recent study conducted by Oregon State University researchers found that certain hemp compounds might be able to prevent SARS-CoV-2 — the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 — from entering human cells, according to a press release from the university. (see also KOINHemp Industry DailyForbes)

Chunhuei Chi, director of the Center for Global Health at Oregon State University in the US, says that the most serious mistake committed by China is not its refusal to share information about the origin of the virus, but its attempt to suppress information about its spread among the population in Wuhan in the initial stage.

Oregon State University on Monday announced that he will start June 30 as the university's dean for its College of Public Health and Human Sciences. "Between now and my departure, I'll be working diligently to support the college and ensure a smooth transition to future leadership," Primack said in a statement. He did not respond Tuesday to a voice message, text message or email from a reporter asking about the move.

“I’ve received resistance when I use the r-word (ration),” said Courtney Campbell, a professor and director of Oregon State University’s Program in Medical Humanities. “It implies the medical system can’t do all that it can to provide care. OSU Wind Ensemble: Oregon Music Education Association Conference Sendoff Concert. The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Oregon Music Educators Association annual conference. As a celebration the ensemble will share the program they have prepared. Conducted by Erik Leung, and featuring Olin Hannum, OSU Athletic Bands Director, guest conductor. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration: Registration for the 40th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is open. The keynote is open to OSU students, staff and faculty. ADA task force: OSU has convened an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) task force to review the policies, programs and systems in place to support a culture of inclusiveness and compliance with the ADA, and make recommendations regarding ongoing effectiveness and  needed improvements. Funding Available for Students to Attend Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference: Community Engagement & Leadership and the Sustainability Office is offering OSU students an opportunity to attend the 2022 Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) taking place March 2-4. Funding is available for up to 8 students to participate virtually and up to 4 students to attend in person at South Seattle College. Call for art: The Reading Room is launching a Call for Art to match the themed collection Metamorphosis and invites you to submit a work of art for display. This call for art is open to all OSU faculty, staff, students and community members. Eat Free: @eatfreeosu is a Twitter account managed by the Human Services Resource Center student team. This account broadcasts information about open events on campus that also have food available. If your event is closed, but you have extra food, a message can be crafted asking students to show up at the end of your event. COVID-19 testing: Oregon State University, in collaboration with Willamette Valley Toxicology (WVT), is providing on-site COVID-19 testing. Traffic and Maintenance

Reser: For work related to the Completing Reser Stadium project, southbound traffic along SW 26th Street near the entrance to the Reser Stadium Parking lot will be diverted into the northbound lane while excavation and pipe installation work is occurring in the closed lane. Flaggers will be used at three locations to separate vehicular traffic from construction workers and equipment. SW 26th Street, access to the Reser Stadium parking lot and adjacent lots will be accessible. All lanes of traffic will reopen at end of shift each day. Construction activities and lane closures will occur between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily from Jan. 10-14. (view map).

West Greenhouse: As part of the 20 & 21 West Greenhouse project, a portion of sidewalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic between SW 30th and 35th streets on SW Campus Way for ADA access and sidewalk improvement work. The month-long closure is scheduled to start on Friday, Jan. 7 and continue through Feb. 7. Please view the online map, which provides an overview of this location and appropriate detours to take. Direct access to the 20 & 21 greenhouses can be made at their north side doors.

Graf Hall: As part of the Graf Hall Renovation Project, a section of sidewalk on the north side of Graf Hall will be closed for excavation work for a new sidewalk and building entry. During the closure, pedestrian traffic will be routed to the north side of Monroe Avenue (view map). The closure takes place now through Jan. 14.
