In a new paper in Nature Energy, Hilary S. Boudet from Oregon State University’s School of Public Policy has set out to explore what is driving people’s reactions to energy innovations and how public support or criticism can influence the adoption and deployment of new energy technologies.

Bioinformatics Users Group (BUG): “Machine learning for phenomics and association testing in genome-wide association studies of regeneration in poplar, i.e. how neural networks help us to see the phenes and the genes,” Michael Nagle (Steve Strauss lab), Wednesday, June 12, at noon in ALS 3006. BUG consists of life scientists, bioinformaticians, computer scientists, mathematicians, engineers, statisticians and researchers of all types who meet to discuss topics related to these fields of study. Meetings are generally informal, consisting of discussions, interactive talks or short workshops. All are welcome. No experience needed to participate. Naval ROTC Spring Commissioning: On June 14 at 10 a.m., the OSU Naval ROTC unit will gather on the Student Experience Center Plaza to commission 14 officers into the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The ceremony will involve the oath of office, assistance into uniform by the students’ families, rendering of the first salute, and remarks from Rear Adm. Jesse Wilson Jr.

Call to Artists: The Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center is hosting the 14th annual Community Art Exhibit. This exhibit provides artists of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to showcase their artwork in a non-juried show. The exhibit runs from July 17 to Aug. 22. Submission deadline is July 15. Leadership Collaborative Course - Managers as Leaders:Applications for LC: Managers as Leaders are now being accepted. Managers as Leaders is a skill-building course for managers and supervisors. It integrates six day-long class sessions with online learning and on-the-job practice. It features team learning, mentors, and practical tools. NEW! Planned Power Outage between June 20 and June 22: In an effort to improve the safety and reliability of the power grid serving the Corvallis campus, there will be a planned power outage Thursday, June 20, beginning at 6 a.m. and lasting through Saturday, June 22, at 6 p.m. Affected buildings will be on backup power and will experience minimal disruption. There will be limited service interruptions June 20, 4 to 7 a.m. and June 22, 5 to 7 a.m. to a number of buildings along Southwest Jefferson Way. OSU’s Power Grid Updates website has a list of affected buildings and times of planned outages.
Scheduled: Campus Wide Steam Shutdown: Each year Facilities Services performs necessary maintenance on the university’s steam system, which requires shutting off the steam throughout campus, to complete maintenance services at the plant, throughout the steam tunnels and in each building. This process affects hot water supply, heating, and all equipment that uses steam, campus wide. The steam shutdown for 2019 will occur from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 p.m. on June 20.
