Corvallis College Building, 1880: The population of Corvallis in 1880 was 1,128, and the college population was 163. In another year, its moniker would change to Corvallis Agricultural College and go through a number of other names before settling upon Oregon State University.

Changes to Valley Library hours effective Nov 12: The library will be open modified hours Nov. 12-31. The main part of the Valley Library will be closed to the public from 2 to 6 a.m., and the Java II coffee shop and lobby spaces will be available as study spaces during this time (2 a.m. to 6 a.m., valid OSU ID required). The Valley Library will resume 24/5 service for dead week and finals week (Dec. 1-13).

Procurement Training Sessions: Procurement is holding three training sessions: Procurement Standards and Resources (Nov. 13 and 22), Informal Procurement (Nov. 15 and 19), and Federal Purchases under Uniform Guidance (Nov. 14 and 20). PFLA and Faculty Senate informational session: Ever wonder what the Faculty Senate does and how professional faculty can be involved? Find out at this month’s event hosted by the Professional Faculty Leadership Association. Bearing Witness: Religious Meaning in Bioethics: A book talk by Courtney Campbell. In his recent book, Campbell draws on his experience as a teacher, scholar and a bioethics consultant to propose an innovative interpretation of the significance of religious values and traditions for bioethics and health care. Fall Repair Fair: Bring your broken items and volunteers will help you learn how to repair your belongings; attend demos every hour to learn more skills! OSU in Cuba Faculty-led Program Info Session: Join professor Ron Mize and Tiffany Palaniuk from the College of Liberal Arts for a six-credit, two-week ,faculty-led study abroad program in Cuba, June 18-30, 2020. This program focuses on exploring the artistic, cultural, historical and political and landscape through conversations, lectures and lessons from a diversity of local experts, and involves visits to museums and cultural centers, art installations, medical clinics, schools, farms, sporting facilities, and sites claiming historic and cultural significance. Budget committee: The University Budget Committee will meet this Friday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Kerr 102.  The UBC is OSU’s advisory body to the provost for recommendations on tuition rates and budget priorities and policies. On Friday the committee will discuss projections and planning relevant to developing tuition recommendations for 2020-21. Members of the university community are welcome to join meetings of the UBC as observers. SBIR/STTR Innovation Day: Join us to learn how you can access federal funding to help advance your research towards greater societal impact. Each year, several federal agencies are required to allocate a portion of their budget to Small Business Innovative Research-funded projects. Oregon Bioengineering Symposium: The inaugural symposium will be held at the CH2M Alumni Center on Nov. 22. The meeting, conducted in collaboration with the University of Oregon and Oregon Health & Sciences University, will cover all areas of bioengineering/biomedical engineering, with an emphasis on technologies for precision health. Request for Proposals: The OSU Advantage Accelerator is seeking proposals to facilitate the further development and commercialization of OSU applied innovations. Proposals can be submitted for projects focused on bringing OSU-owned innovations invented by OSU faculty, staff, and/or graduate students in any discipline closer to market. Each project may be awarded up to $15,000. Proposals are due no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2. Grant Funding Request for Proposals: The OSU Women’s Giving Circle is accepting proposals for grant funding to be awarded in May 2020. Projects that enhance the undergraduate experience, directly impact as many OSU students as possible, and improve student retention are eligible. Sparkshops: The Center for Teaching and Learning now offers “Sparkshops.” This is a 15-minute workshop on an evidence-based instructional practice that can be presented to faculty during a department meeting or other teaching-related meetings.
