University researchers exploring cannabis as a treatment for Covid-19 (Forbes)

Researchers at Oregon State University will present information on using natural products including hemp to treat Covid-19 at a free virtual event next week, nearly a year after publishing a study that found that compounds in cannabis could prevent infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in human cells.
 

Challenges facing food and beverage companies seeking to export (Phys Org)

A new Oregon State University study that examined exporting practices of Oregon food and beverage companies found that the likelihood of exporting increases with firm size and length of time in business and that the COVID-19 pandemic reduced the ability of firms to export. (see also KLCCKTVZ)

MPP defense: Leah Pratt will present “K-12 School Finance Reform: An Idaho Case Study." There have been years of stalled K-12 school finance reform efforts in Idaho, yet it was unclear what key Idaho education interest groups currently thought about how Idaho funds their public schools. Therefore, this project explored the institutional perspectives and beliefs of K-12 Idaho education stakeholders regarding the Idaho K-12 school funding formula. Resilient Teaching Showcase: Join CTL and Academic Technologies for presentations by members of the Fall ’22 Resilient Teaching Faculty Learning Community. Demonstration: On Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 2-3:30 p.m. there will be a demonstration at the MU stairs in solidarity with Iranian protesters. This demonstration is in coordination with a global community of over 100 universities. Organizers want to spread the messages of the Iranian people and raise awareness of the injustices the Iranian people are facing at the hands of the present regime. They will also honor the strength of the protesters in Iran, especially the women and girls who are fighting with all they have.

Percent for Art celebration: Oregon was one of the first states to pass ‘Percent for Art’ legislation, setting aside no less than 1% of funds for the acquisition of public-facing artwork in all state funded building construction projects. OSU Guitar Ensemble Fall Concert: The OSU Guitar Ensemble offers up its signature blend of music from around the world for large and small ensembles. OSU Jazz Ensemble Fall Concert featuring works celebrating from Mingus, Metheny, Steve Owen, Ellen Rowe and others. You can expect to hear familiar classics as well as some new and exciting compositions. The OSU jazz band features some of the finest brass, wind and rhythm players on campus. NEW VENUE! The ROTC Navy vs. Army football game Friday, Dec. 2, 4-5 p.m. will now be at Corvallis High School. Every year, these two groups play in a fun, end-of-fall-term flag (mostly) football game, in light of the real USNA/USMA football game in December. NEW! Conference scholarship: Applications for the Gender Advocacy and Inclusion Network (GAIN) in Higher Education 2023 conference scholarship now open. The President's Commission on the Status of Women (PCOSW) is offering scholarships to cover early registration costs for the 2023 GAIN conference. This year’s conference will be held in Ashland from April 26-28. OSU faculty, professional faculty, staff, students and OSU community members are eligible to apply. Preference is given to those who have not been funded in the past for the in-person conference. The scholarship application deadline is Dec. 9. DO NOT register for the GAIN conference if you are applying for a scholarship until you are approved. Once approved, you will be sent a special registration link for the conference. Participate in the Cannabis and Regulation of Emotion (CARE) Study: Are you 21-30 years-old, fluent in English, and a U.S. citizen? Do you use cannabis? Driving study participants wanted: The OSU School of Civil and Construction Engineering seeks research study participants who are at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license. The study purpose is to better understand driver habits while operating a vehicle at night to increase safety on the roadway. Participants will be paid for their involvement, which requires a time commitment of approximately one hour and coming to the OSU Driving Simulator Laboratory. Free COVID tests: Free iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests are available on the Corvallis and Bend campuses and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Each box contains two tests. While supplies last, OSU community members can pick up these self-test kits without restrictions. Please note the FDA has extended the self-test kit expiration dates by six months.

Traffic and Maintenance

Street and sidewalk closure on Washington Way: As part of the Washington Way Improvement Project, SW Washington Way will be closed daily between SW 26th and SW 17th Streets to begin water line replacement. Work will occur Nov. 30, 2022 through Jan. 6 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. This portion of Washington Way will reopen to vehicle traffic after 5 p.m. daily. (View map) The sidewalk on the north side of Washington Way will also be closed, and an alternate pedestrian route will be identified with signage.
