Housing fire safety: Students who live away from home should recognize fire safety features present in their living space. Here are some tips to stay safe: Look for a fully sprinklered building when choosing a place to live. Make sure your sleeping area is protected with a smoke alarm inside the room. Test the smoke detector(s) monthly. Learn your building’s evacuation plan and practice the drill for muscle memory. Stay in the kitchen when cooking and only cook when you're alert.
