CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Corvallis-OSU Symphony will perform its annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Austin Auditorium at The LaSells Stewart Center, 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis.
Steven Zielke, Oregon State University’s director of choral studies, will open the program with Franz Joseph Haydn’s Mass in D minor, Hob. XXII/11 “Lord Nelson,” featuring the OSU Chamber Choir. Originally titled “Missa in Angustiis (Mass for troubled times),” the work is one of six masses composed near the end of Haydn’s life.
Corvallis-OSU Symphony Director Marlan Carlson will lead the orchestra in Ernst Bloch’s “Baal Shem” for violin and orchestra, featuring student soloist Bettine Rehr-Zimmerman, and Arturo Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2” to close the first half.
After intermission, the orchestra will be joined by the OSU Meistersingers, directed by Russ Christensen, OSU’s Bella Voce, directed by Sandra Babb, and the combined OSU choirs in a collection of “holiday-themed bon-bons” and the holiday sing-along, an audience favorite.
Tickets are $22 to $32 in advance or $25 to $35 at the door. Tickets are available online at https://cosusymphony.org/. Up to three K-8 students accompanied by a ticketed adult, and all high school and college students with ID, may be given free general admission tickets at the door starting one hour prior to the concert, subject to availability.
