CORVALLIS, Ore. – The touring fiddle choir Childsplay will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 SW 26th St., on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.

The performance is part of “SAC Presents,” a visual and performing arts events series presented by the School of Arts and Communication in OSU’s College of Liberal Arts.

Led by violin maker Robert Childs, Childsplay is comprised of more than 20 musicians from around the U.S. and Ireland, with each member of the string section playing a violin or viola handmade by Childs.

The touring group features instrumentalists ranging from all-Ireland and Scottish fiddle champions to members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The show also features National Heritage award-inning Irish step-dancer Kevin Doyle and Pilobolus dance theater member Molly Gawler, as well as the celebrated traditional Irish vocalist Karan Casey.

Childsplay has toured for more than 30 years, and has just released its seventh album, “The Bloom of Youth.” The album release was the first step in what has been announced as the band’s farewell tour.

“Since our first gig in 1988, our band of talented musicians has strived to take fiddle music beyond mesmerizing repetition and into the realm of harmonies and counter rhythms — traditional fiddle sounds in a contemporary world,” Childs has said. “We are so grateful to all of our fans for their continued support as we tune our strings for the final time, and we hope to meet new fans along the way.”

SAC Presents brings well-known headliners, rising stars and unique, lesser known artists and ensembles to the community. The lineup of artists represents a broad spectrum of music genres as well as other types of performers and speakers.
