CORVALLIS, Ore. – An exhibition of work by artist Ka’ila Farrell Smith, “Marks From A Journey Home,” will be on display Jan. 7 through Feb. 7 in the Fairbanks Gallery of Art on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.

Farrell-Smith is a contemporary Klamath Modoc visual artist based in Modoc Point, Oregon, and co-director for the Signal Fire artist residency program based in Portland.

The framework of her practice involves experimentation and artistic playfulness rooted in indigenous aesthetics and abstract formalism. Utilizing painting and traditional indigenous art practice, her work explores space between the indigenous and western paradigms in the form of paintings, objects and self-curated installations.

Farrell-Smith received a bachelor of fine arts in painting from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and a master of fine arts in contemporary art practices studio from Portland State University.

Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, Washington, Tacoma Art Museum, Missoula Art Museum, and Medici Fortress in Cortona, Italy. She also has work in the permanent collections of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and Portland Art Museum.

The exhibit is presented by the School of Arts and Communication in the College of Liberal Arts.

Fairbanks Gallery of Art is OSU’s professional art gallery. Its mission is to initiate, produce, and present scholarly visual art exhibitions to advance contact and dialogue with original works of art as an indispensable part of liberal art education.

The gallery is located in Fairbanks Hall, 220 SW 26^th Street, Corvallis. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., with hours extended until 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month for the Corvallis Art Walk.
