CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University employees, students, football fans and the public should plan ahead when visiting the Corvallis campus on Friday, Aug. 30, as a weekday home game could make parking a challenge.

Oregon State will host Oklahoma State University in a nationally televised game at 7:30 p.m.

“Weeknight games may bring traffic congestion and parking challenges as 40,000 fans and faculty, staff and students gather on OSU’s Corvallis campus,” said Steve Clark, vice president of university relations and marketing. “Each of us can help lessen congestion by altering how we travel that day to and from the Corvallis campus, saving time, minimizing hassle and enabling an even better university and fan experience.”

OSU employees, students and football fans have a variety of options aimed at easing the traffic burden on Aug. 30:

  • OSU parking permit holders can park in any commuter zone (Zones A, B or C) on campus. However, cars belonging to employees in the red tow lots on the linked map must be removed by 1 p.m.
  • OSU employees are encouraged to use local transit to travel to and from campus. For details about routes and times of service, visit the Corvallis Transit System website. Meanwhile, the OSU Beaver Bus shuttle service will operate from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 30.
  • To avoid congestion, people are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to campus. A new state program, Get There Oregon, connects OSU employees with colleagues who want to join a carpool. As well, many local ridesharing services are available and provide transportation options. Visit the OSU Transportation Services website for more information.
  • Eligible employees may also consider telecommuting. Employees must talk to their department or business unit managers to gain approval to work remotely Aug. 30.

OSU Athletics is offering a special $20 ticket for both Friday night games this season for faculty and staff in recognition of their many contributions to Oregon State and in appreciation of employee assistance in helping to accommodate these Friday night games. Call 1-800-GO BEAVS for this special offer for the Oklahoma State game.

For those attending the Aug. 30 game, a free athletics shuttle service is available from the Benton County Fairgrounds beginning at 4:30 p.m. and will run until an hour after the game ends.

All Pac-12 universities agreed several years ago to host at least two weeknight football games every three years. In addition to the Aug. 30 game, OSU will host University of Washington in a Friday night home game at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
