Ian Vorster serves as editor of Oregon State University’s scientific research magazine, Terra, and as the assistant director of research communications. Vorster covers high-level research stories in the longform format for Terra and manages the production, article proposal and submission and editing process for the magazine. A native South African, after immigration Vorster worked for two years as a staff photojournalist, four years in the field of medical science communications, followed by five in the field of environmental communications. His career spans almost three decades in Africa and the U.S. He has an associate degree in photography and graphic design, a bachelor’s in education with a double major in geography and physical education from Nelson Mandela University, and a master’s degree in environmental communications from Green Mountain College in Vermont.
