President Ed Ray will receive the award in October.

The Oregon Historical Society has named Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray as one of four recipients of the Oregon History Makers Medal for 2018. First awarded in 2009, the History Makers Medal is presented annually by OHS to individuals and organizations that are positively shaping the history, culture, and landscape of Oregon.

Honorees are chosen from a large number of Oregonians and businesses making a significant impact in their field of work during their lifetime. Their endeavors have changed the world of business, literature, medicine, sports, education and the arts. Past honorees include Columbia Sportswear’s Gert Boyle, author Jean Auel and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof.

The Oregon History Makers Medal will be presented at a dinner at the historic Montgomery Park building in Portland on Sunday, Oct. 7. Proceeds from the History Makers Dinner support every aspect of the Oregon Historical Society’s important work to collect, preserve, and interpret Oregon’s past.
