SALEM - Derek Godwin has been named to head the Marion County office of the Oregon State University Extension Service.

For several years, Godwin has served Marion County and most of Oregon as an OSU Extension watershed management specialist, providing on-the-ground training for watershed councils, managers and landowners across the state. He will continue working with the OSU Extension Watershed team in addition to his new responsibilities in Marion County.

The Marion County office of OSU Extension provides programs in home and community horticulture, 4-H youth education, family and community development as well as agricultural programs, sustainable communities and watershed stewardship.

The Extension faculty in Marion County are particularly active in the Hispanic community, with 4-H youth programs from sports to technology and family programs from nutrition to finances.

"Godwin will head a talented team of Extension faculty in Marion County," said Deborah Maddy, assistant director of the OSU Extension Service.

Godwin replaces John Burt as chair of the Marion County office. In addition, agronomist Tom Silberstein has joined the Extension office as a field crops specialist, serving Marion County's large agricultural community.
