Pet Day at OSU’s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine is happening from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, with plenty of activities and educational opportunities for the whole family.

Pet Day is held mostly outdoors at Magruder Hall, 700 SW 30th Street in Corvallis.

Leashed pets are welcome at Pet Day, though they are not permitted inside Magruder per university policy and must be attended by their owners at all times.

At any given moment, Oregon State University labs and aquariums are home to tens of thousands of fish, providing clues to researchers on everything from toxicology to climate to infectious disease.  

As associate attending veterinarian for aquatics, Dr. Tim Miller-Morgan and his team work to ensure best caretaking practices and healthy living conditions for everything with gills.

Squirt was diagnosed with patent ductus arteriosus, aka PDA. PDA is a condition where a blood vessel fails to close after birth. Dr. Kate Scollan, board-certified cardiologist, and cardiology resident Dr. Charlotte Donnan are experienced with fixing PDAs in dogs. They worked with large animal medicine specialist Dr. Kelly Sears and team and decided to perform the same procedure to fix Squirt’s heart. Meet Trygve, a young Norwegian Fjord horse owned by Alexandria Harris and her family. This video chronicles Trygve’s fight against equine protozoal myeloencephalitis at the Oregon State University Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital. "He means a lot to me and my family. He's a very sweet horse," said Harris.

Maximus is a four-year-old German shepherd in need of a pacemaker to fix his slow heart rate. The surgery is performed by Dr. Charlotte Donnan and team at the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Brianna Beechler, an assistant professor in OSU’s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, goes to Kruger National Park in South Africa twice a year for two months at a time with fellow CCVM professor Dr. Anna Jolles to research foot-and-mouth disease in African buffalo. She is home this fall and shared here about her work.
