Oregon State University Libraries and Press will now be able to help the public research patents and trademarks as it becomes the 101st Patent and Trademark Resource Center. It is one of only two in Oregon, the other being at Multnomah County Library.
When ChatGPT first appeared on the scene in 2022, there was a ripple effect in the world of library science. Because librarians are centered on evaluating and utilizing information sources and systems, many recognized right away both the power and the problems of generative AI as a source of information.
Oregon State University librarians are keeping a close watch on changes at the federal level that could impact government data necessary to conduct research at the university, including data related to climate change, natural resource management, STEM and other areas. The potential loss of access to such data could negatively impact many areas of research across the university, including those identified in the university’s strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared.
