10 Questions With… Jade Carey, Olympic gold medalist, former Beaver student-athlete and current student assistant coach and member of the Oregon State Class of 2026. Carey will be delivering the commencement address at this year’s Oregon State University Commencement Ceremony on June 13. She is graduating with a bachelor of science in digital communication arts.
Before Benny Beaver became an icon, there was Ken Austin, a spirited Oregon State student who brought the mascot to life with a handmade costume and a dream to entertain the crowd. Hear from Ken himself, OSU’s first Benny Beaver, as he reflects on how the experience shaped his confidence, his community and his lifelong pride in Oregon State University. Ken Austin (1931-2019) graduated from the College of Business in 1953. Austin Hall is named for his family's long-standing commitment and generosity to the college. Once a Beaver, always a Beaver.
During Homecoming weekend earlier this month, Oregon State University’s beloved mascot unveiled a life-size Benny Beaver bronze sculpture and bench outside the CH2M HILL Alumni Center, a philanthropic gift from two alumni that’s meant to embody school spirit.
