Where in the world is assistant professor of practice Itchung Cheung? Aruba

Marine scientist Itchung Cheung is an assistant professor of practice in OSU’s College of Science, as well as the academic programs manager at Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. He specializes in experiential learning, outreach and student research training. Over spring break, he co-led a student trip to Aruba.

Where in the world is professor Zhaohui Wu? Japan

Zhaohui Wu is the assistant director of industry outreach with OSU’s Global Hemp Innovation Center, housed within the College of Agricultural Sciences, and a professor of supply chain management and industry policy in the College of Business. His work recently took him to Japan to learn about hemp production and hemp’s role in cultural settings.  

Where in the world is doctoral student Lorena Cardenas? Peru

Lorena Cardenas is a second-year Ph.D. student in OSU’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, studying human-environmental geography. Her research focuses on the impact of climate change on small villages in Peru and how people from varying backgrounds experience climate change differently.

Where in the world is associate professor Leigh Torres? New Zealand

Leigh Torres is an associate professor and marine ecologist in OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute in Newport, Ore., where she leads the Geospatial Ecology of Marine Megafauna (GEMM) Lab. Her work has taken her all over the world as she studies the behavior and environment of marine animals including blue whales. She recently returned from a research trip off the coast of New Zealand.

Where in the world is associate professor Lei Xue? China

Lei Xue is an associate professor of art history in the School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts within the College of Liberal Arts, where he teaches about Chinese and Japanese art. In September 2024, he joined a research trip in China to document centuries-old inscriptions carved into the mountainside.

Where were you?

We were in a mountainous area of Shandong Province in China, a coastal province just across from the Korean peninsula.

Where in the world is professor Scott Heppell? Little Cayman

Scott Heppell is a professor in OSU’s Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences within the College of Agricultural Sciences, where his research focuses on marine and freshwater fish ecology. He’s worked with fish all over the world and is currently on his annual trip to Little Cayman for an ongoing conservation project for the Nassau grouper.

Where in the world is distinguished professor John Selker? Chile

John Selker is a distinguished professor of hydrology in OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences, where he has been researching water and soil dynamics since 1991. During his time at OSU, he has used his sabbaticals to explore soil conditions all over the world, including in a large dryland region in Chile. He recently returned from speaking at Chile’s Congreso Futuro.
