‘Food Cultures and Social Justice’ conference brings hundreds to OSU; highlights equity, sustainability

Oregon State University recently hosted an international conference that brought together hundreds of researchers, writers, students and practitioners to learn about cultivating equitable and environmentally sound food and agricultural systems.

A human-powered submarine and a quarter-scale tractor highlight Engineering Expo 2025

A human-powered submarine, a quarter-scale tractor and a wildfire management simulation video game are among the roughly 200 senior capstone projects that will be on display June 6 at the 2025 College of Engineering Expo.

More than 850 students will take part in the event, which is free and open to the public. The expo will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 6 at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center and The LaSells Stewart Center. An awards ceremony and reception will follow.

OSU Authors: ‘Aquí Se Habla’ book on Spanish language learning celebrates the ‘local and personal’

At a book release celebration today, some of the book’s authors, editors and students will share their “local and personal” experiences of learning and teaching Spanish, offering a different perspective from the typical academic approach to “foreign” languages.  

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden to deliver this year’s Gov. Tom McCall Memorial Lecture May 28

The Gov. Tom McCall Memorial Lecture in Public Affairs this year will be a conversation between U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden and retired Associated Press journalist Terrence Petty.

Petty will interview Wyden about his recent book, “It Takes Chutzpah: How to Fight Fearlessly for Progressive Change.” Petty was the Oregon news editor for the AP for 18 years, after working as an AP foreign correspondent based in Germany.

OSU co-hosting conference on participatory science in Portland May 27-30

OSU is collaborating with Portland State University to host the annual Conference for Advancing Participatory Sciences (CAPS) from May 27-30, an event that aims to promote public engagement in the sciences through hands-on community involvement.

Participatory science, also known as citizen science or community science, is research done by volunteers who are participating for their own enjoyment rather than as part of a job or educational requirements.
